You can very easily keep up with hunger and thirst in this game once you get the hang of the basics. I wouldn't pass on this game, especially at its current sale price, just because it's got those "survival" mechanics.

For just the part you would need to hop right in if you did get the game:
1st) In your Settings, under Gameplay, set Allow Cheats to "On"
2nd) While sitting at the title screen blindly type "developermodeon" (developer mode on, all one word, no spaces, no text box or anything to enter it into) and hit enter. If it worked, F1 should bring up the console...so you can use that to check.
3rd) Select your game like normal, however you want
4th) Once in game, F1 to bring up that console and enter the command "survival off", hit enter.
