You can catch a live rabbit, raccoon, or lizard with one of two ways. Either sneaking up on it with crouch/running up on it and slapping it across the face with your axe, or by building a trap. Its under "traps", costs something like 20-something sticks and will trap rabbits, raccoon, and lizards. Rabbits you can pick up, and then left click while they're in your hand to kill, lizards and raccoons you have to attack them while they're in the cage then harvest them like that. After thatch done, you put them back in. I haven't tested it on this new patch, but the rabbit cage (to bread rabbits) doesn't work still.
To garden just build the garden, and put seeds in it when it prompts you to press E. After a while, say 5 minutes, the garden will spring up a solid amount of plants. They can either be any of the 4 herbs, or a thistle bush. A thistle bush cannot be picked or "chopped down" with your axe, however it does yield unlimited leaves (but you can't use your garden while its there obviously) so you have to use fire arrows or a molotov to burn it out of the garden. Oh and you gather seeds by gathers herbs out in the wild and/or from your garden.
To make a really brief tip list.
Keep your starting base(s) very small, and tucked up against a cliff side built up on some foundation or in tree's.
Make your fire in your base, and make sure the fire is made in a room so no light escapes from the fire, cannibals are attracted to the light from fires.
When you make a base, be sure you know roughly where the closest water source is.
Effigies are really good at scaring cannibals away during the day time but they're not as effective during the night time.
Things cannibals are attracted to (and will come check out/set their patrol routes to come check out more often)
-Fire
-Player made objects
-Chopped down trees
-Dead cannibals
-Places where you fought cannibals/were sighted by them and then they got away
-You (obviously)
Cannibals won't ALWAYS try to just attack you. Sometimes they'll just stalk you, sometimes they'll just come check you out and then leave, sometimes then'll attack but if you kill a couple they get afraid of you and try to run. They AI system is very advanced, and usually if you turn tail and run at the first sight of a cannibal they will think you're a little biznatch and be more aggro towards you. If you run up and give them a slap across the face and back up a little, usually they'll back off and come back later with more of their boi's.
Ways to keep cannibals away from your base
-Effigies (as stated above)
-Kill scout cannibals (usually groups of 1 or 2) as soon as you encounter them at your base. The AI in this game is VERY good, and basically they will go and "alert" the other cannibals if they get away from you alive, causing nightly raiding parties to come knocking on your door
-Build traps build traps build traps build traps. Most effective traps in order (imo) Trip Mine, Noose Trap, Dead Fall Trap, Happy B-Day Trap. The first two are very good but pretty resource heavy when you're just starting out. The Deadfall Trap is cheap and effective, the happy b-day trap is very situation and hard to use properly. Its more of a trap to bait cannibals into.
Stay stealthy. Crouching and hiding from cannibals is very big in this game, you can also create "camouflage armor" by combining lizard skin and leafs, the more you make, the stealthier you are up to a max amount of armor (indicated by the yellowish bar by your health)
Go to the beach, place a stick marker.
Kill seagulls with your spear and gather their feathers.
Craft arrows.
Make sure you've got lots of cloth.
Craft a bow.
Light your arrows on fire with L.
Become death destroyer of cannibals.
Any way to fix this?
try adjusting the resolution
You can find rope in the cannibal villages sometimes and on the old boats scattered on and off shore. You can also make rope with (IIRC) six cloth.
Clear water can be gathered from rainfall or by boiling tainted water. To boil water find a metal pot from one of the old campsites, equip it and then "use" a source of tainted water to fill the pot. Then build a fire and put the pot on the fire and wait. To collect rainfall build a rain collector and wait for rain (I suggest building at least a dozen to keep you going through dry days).
You can also make a waterskin out of (IIRC) either deer skin or rabbit fur. Equip it and you can fill it at a rain collector to carry clean water with you. You can also equip your metal pot when it's raining and just wait a minute or so for it to fill that way.
I agree, aiming with the bow is kinda hard right now. Or maybe it just doesn't do much damage to the cannibals, and I can't tell when I hit. I also think molotovs are a much more reliable way to set enemies on fire than fire arrows.
I have no real advice for finding your lost log sled. Just try to retrace your steps I guess. Or build another and hope to find the first later. Good luck, have fun.
just run hahah
