Howto: Farm berries (I think!)

After some experimentation I think I figured out how to grow berry bushes in the garden plots you can build. Since I've seen it asked more than once I figured I'd write a post about it...

Step one, of course, is to build a garden. only needs two logs, which is plenty cheap. Might as well build two!


Step two is to pick flowers. I've found three so far that you can pick; Something that looks like an orange Marigold, something that looks like an Aloe, and a tall plant with purple blooms... maybe a Malva? Anyway, you'll see this symbol:

Pick a few. Nothing will seem to happen, but you have them now.


Step three immediately go to your garden and plant what you picked up. It seems that doing other things tends to "undo the magic" - especially picking up other items. You should get another prompt identical to the one that was over the plant. It seems that you can plant up to five things in a single garden.


Step four Wait. Time seems to be random but it can take several minutes for anything to grow - go do something else to pass the time.


Step 5 See what ya got! It seems what actually grows is random and unrelated to what you planted. You can get any of the three plants mentioned above, or a berry bush! If you planted more than once in the same garden, you might get a mix of plant types.


Notes:

- When you load the game again, the planter will of course be empty. :(

- It also seems that, perhaps, the berries do not regrow one eaten - but you can axe the bush and replant. It could just take much longer than the wild berry bushes, though...

- I have not seen a poisonous berry bush grow, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

Are you sure you didn't inadvertently plant something, or that it wasn't something growing on the ground underneath and clipping through? I've nevr had anything spontaneously grow... so maybe you hit "E" too many times and planted something without knowing it.

I can confirm this Smidge204, I was able to follow your steps. I had 6 small gardens and it does seem to randomly choose a 'bush/plant' to grow in your garden. I think it may work a bit like a higher percentage for the 'medical' plant to grow that you pick and smaller percentages for other edibles to grow instead.

Well Dr. Muerte, it is still buggy. But the steps outlined above will increase your chance of getting berries, plants, etc.. to grow.
