Flare Gun - How do you use it?

So all I read and see in videos when it comes to the Flare Gun is people using it like a machine gun to make the game super easy.

So, how do YOU use the flaregun? Do you exploit the crap out of it? If so, don't you feel you are missing the true game experience?

Until I nerfed it in my mod. I never used it because of how hack it was.

I just find it interesting that most people in the "should there be guns" threads, that say no to guns, can generally be found recommending the flare gun to kill mutants, or actually promoting exploiting it.

maybe exploit is a bit too strong a word - i just mean sometimes the bugs work against you, but sometimes you use the bugs to your advantage as long as they are reported. it's an alpha with regular updates, i didn't mean it in a general sense.

Im not saying people should be ashamed of exploiting. I just want to know why people do. I felt immediately that using it would ruin the game experience so I stopped using it entirely.

I rarely use the flaregun. Infinite flares takes the fun out of the game. Suddenly it's not survival anymore, it's *insert random first-person shooter-game here*.

Most of the times it doesn't even work. I get one shot that actually kills a cannibal, then it bugs out. This kinda makes me happy though as I have to find other ways to defend myself.

just because it's there and you can, i just feel it doesn't really matter while the game is still alpha. i stopped playing because currently there's really much to do, having the flare gun bug made it slighly more enoyable testing these first few builds.

currently everyone is using exploits, albeit sometimes inadvertently. when the rabbits burn after running through fire, you take the food; you can't starve or freeze; infinite molotovs without actually doing anything deliberate, who leaves a mutant after its bugged out when you can harvest it's limbs to make an effigy, etc.

no point in picking on just one thing.

Sorry guys but I don't believe in giving the bad guys a break. The name of the game is survival and there's nothng wrong with using everything at your disposal.

The flare gun kills too many mutants? awww that's to bad, poor things.

At this stage the game exploits you half the time, so enjoy the 20 clip flare gun while it lasts.

Ive just about removed all the exploits now for my mod. Just got blocking to be broken when you run out of stamina!
