[WINDOWS XP][32BIT][FIX] + [Saving Game Options/Settings]

I managed to run the game with my OS!
I use Windows XP. I have probably 4 GB Ram.
But of course XP only reads 3GB RAM.

SYSTEM: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Computer:
AMD Phenom(tm) 8650
Triple-Core Processor
2.31 GHz, 3.00 GB of RAM
Physical Address Extension


Trick:
My registry here is originally : Windows SharedSection=1024,20480,768
I changed it to 1024,4096,512

Now I go to Start
Right click My Computer and select Properties.
Go to Advanced Tab, Find [StartUp and Recovery]
Click Settings. Now at the Top . Click [Edit]

A notepad should open named Boot.ini

It should show this

Now I made new lines here to test them out everytime I restart my PC.
I added 2 lines
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 4GB" /3GB /USERVA=4096 /FASTDETECT /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional 3GB" /3GB /USERVA=3072 /FASTDETECT /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN

For me this line worked.

your boot.ini should look like this

Save notepad and Restart your PC.

At the boot. You will see 3 options.
Select the 4 GB and let your PC boot up.
After that try and run the game at the lowest graphics settings and resolution.
If you screwed up and Tabbed out of the game and the game screen froze but you can still hear your character move?
Try to press ALT + ENTER so your PC will switch to full screen. You will see the screen back to normal and you can move.

"Its up to you if you wanna add and try 3GB. But 4GB worked for me.
It might seem laggy. and the game might freeze if you try to change some settings or Tab out of the game. But its the only thing I got it to be able to enter the game and play it.
So hope this works to everyone out there struggling to find a fix for Windows XP.
Everyone here I saw told that Windows XP is not supported. Well I prove you wrong. And this Alpha build will surely improve more in the future and make this be more possible, stable and easy to play without any problems, even when your OS is Windows XP.

[Saving Options/Settings]

Open the game.
Check your settings and apply the settings you want.
Go to Start - Run: Type Regedit

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software \ SKS \ TheForest

First is to right click TheForest and click on Permission. Click RESTRICTED and check Allow on FullControl.
Apply.
Do the same to SKS
Go back to the game and play without closing the Regedit at Theforest.

Yeah. This is to help those who just wanna experience the game a little even though its kinda laggy. I was able to play. The graphics was great. But I'm kinda getting low FPS even though at all lowest settings.

If you have a higher graphics card and you're using Win XP. This might help you. And probably won't have problem with FPS since you have a higher Graphics than me.

Since the game is still buggy. And that PC parts are also important.
The game might still improve performance and issues towards crashes in the near future.
You also need 4GB ram and a good graphic card.
The OS doesn't matter since it works for Windows XP. You just need to change the registry.
But this won't help if your PC doesn't qualify the minimum system requirements.

I got a 1GB GeForce 8500 GT. And my FPS is bad. But I can endure it to the point of getting to build some stuff even though its hard to move or hit.
As long as you have at least 1GB Graphics and 4GB Ram installed in your PC. It is playable even at low performance.

Also there are chances that the game would crash at loading. But that's how it is cause even people with good PC's experience crashes.

Best way to run the game if your specs are low is to close every program not needed before running this game. Also avoid moving around and switching windows cause it would affect the screen of the game and might even make it crash.

I guess it would be fine since 2 is better than 1.
And compared to mine, yours is better. So it won't hurt to give it a shot :D

Good sir.
No offense, but this post is for people who are having trouble with The Forest Crashes (Like everyone else with Other OS like Win7/8)
Windows XP is just an OS. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be used anymore. It doesn't hurt anybody.
This is only a fix for registry in Windows XP since its different than the others mentioned. Same with the Options Fix
The post is not for people who aren't having problems with this :D

It's not the OS's problem. Its the PC specs itself. The Forest is playable with Windows XP the same with ALL the HIGHER OS there. EVERYONE Else is experiencing the same problems. The only difference is the OS. Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8
x32 or x64. It's the same with the crash and error problems being experienced.

The game is Alpha. And the staff have already said that the game will be further fixed with these kinds of issues on the next updates to come.
So there's no point on saying that here no matter how many times you say "Evolve" to us :D
