i've personally not noticed any significant difference, the stone axe seems to do more 'damage' to the tree but is slower than the survival axe but seems to take about the same amount of time. It's been a while since I've used the metal axe you find in the cave on a tree so I don't really know about that.

Yellow modern one, just something about it, probably not any better than the one you find in the cave.

Wouldn't the stone axe be better then, since you use less stamina due to less swings needed?

there aren't any best axe currently, to me they all take the same amount of time chopping trees down but I think it's because the game is still in alpha mode. I have a feeling axes will change and evovle as the game progress, meaning some axe will help you gather log much faster than other axe and I have a feeling the Mordern Axe will be the best and Stone Axes will be the slowest (these are all guesses of my)
