How to PAUSE the game, sorta.
I made a guide for this too, it's more up to date and goes into better instructions if you haveing trouble, look for it in the guide section or click the link below.

Playing The Forest and something pops up suddenly and you need to stop playing to take care of it but don't want to die and start all over due to cannibals chompin your balls?

Just start blocking(RMB), then press B while your are blocking. You'll be blocking as long as that book is up, and guess what, if you press B again you'll be in a constant state of block still without having to hold block. You can get out of this by swinging your axe.

I had to pay some bills earlier today, found this out by accident and forgot I was playing this game, came back to me being in a completely different location due to cannibals moving me by ♥♥♥♥♥ slapping me around no doubt, but I was completely fine.

What are other reasons for needing to PAUSE this game? I'll throw some reasons out there to start us off.

Water pipes bust
Someone breaks into you house
House catches fire
Gotta catch them all
Dog needs to go to the vet
Need to go to work
Lawn Gnome collection needs to be readjusted

Maybe true, but i have had unhappy experiences with doing that with games when i had a slower less powerful computer.

Bump, because this is still a thing.

This does NOT pause the game, it just ceases refreshing the window. When you set your focus back to the game it will stutter for a moment while it catches up with everything that happened while it was minimized or in the background. I've tested this several times, and each time the game has continued while it was minimized/backgrounded. I put food on a fire and tabbed/minimized, came back a short while later and found my food burned. I lit an effigy, came back a short while later and it was extinguished. I walked away at a sunny part, only to find it raining constantly when i returned....the game continues without you, you just can't see what's happening.

Sorry, Don't know how to link it to the guide that is in the guide section. However it doesn't change that everything after that first sentence still explains how to do the trick.

If you weren't already aware, you can enable the address bar in the Steam UI. Go into Steam options and turn it on, then you just have to copy and paste the URL for the guide (Or if guides have a "Share" link then paste that)

Thanks for the info, i'll try to mess around trying to do that when i'm done with a game i'm playing. I pasted a link to the guide in the first post until i can snazzy it up.

Alright as requested, I posted the link to the guide in the first post, and made it look a little more tidy.
