Sounds like an interesting spot, I haven't played the game in a few months, but I'll see how long me and my friends can hold out there. They tend to use the artificial island tactic, I'll see if this is better.

My favorite area to build legitimate bases is here:

You have 2 sides to wall off. One is a large open area between two cliffs (takes about 60 logs or so to make a wall all the way across using defensive walls). The other is a small hill, I often set bomb /molotov traps up at the lower section, then use bone walls to funnel enemies into a trap near the top.
Well...i don't want to mislead you about the supplies or anything you can find there because that side is true...but safe? GEESE LAKE IS EVERYTHING BUT SAFE! The cannibals can actually get down to the shores and if that weren't enough....there are alligators :"(
The nice thing about this location is that it's secluded. The cannibals rarely go down there. They usually stay up at the top of the cliff away from you. There's only one way to get to you, along the cliff face, so if you set up good defences along that cliff face, you're golden. Also, you can set up bridges to those islands docks, houseboats, and rafts for water escapes and building.

I do it for many reasons:
I build there always for these reasons:
a) The beach below you is full of turtles, seagulls and suitcases which respawn (shells, meat, feathers and cloth in abundance plus a place to wash).
b) On the clifftop where you are building there are milions of trees and stick plants and rocks absolutely everywhere so the build itself is easy. (logs, sticks and stones in abundance)
c) Two fishing ponds right in front of the base (fish and water in abundance)
d) Walk along the beach to the immediate west and you come to the washed up shipping containers where tons of circuit boards and alcohol respawn. Cannibals also build tons of effigies there which is great for Cloth and Alcohol.
e) Area is full of rabbits.
f) There is a human campsite very nearby (quite a big one) which has tons of suitcase (watches, alcohol, meds and cloth in abundance)
g) Immediately in front (slightly NE) of the base is a patch of land where all the herbs grow, especially Aloe.
h) Once you clear a ton of trees to build, your base ends up on a clifftop, facing north. So you have a cliff behind you and in front the ground slopes gently down away from the base which means you see the enemy coming for miles and have superb vantage when shooting from the walls at my leisure.
Be warned. This location will be attacked. It is not completely unreachable by cannibals like some island or lake bases are. But that's the fun of it for me, they never get inside the completed base, so I spend hours up on my watchtowers shooting them, burning them and blowing them up from a great height. Very amusing. Currently on day #81.
If I knew how to take screenies and upload them to Steam, I would...
The game does have such an option.
The large village is near by so supplies aren't an issue.
Short raft ride from the yacht for more supplies.
Good fishing spots in the sea.
With a little observation it's easy to see the paths of cannibal patrols which can be trapped to keep patrols away from the build area, a first line of defense.
