How can i farm a sticks?

Looking like, sometimes, when i'm looking at the top of the tree and pressing LMB, i can get some sticks. I'd like to know for sure, how to get them?

Chop down smaller trees/saplings. Also the forest floor should be littered with them.

On the ground are sticks and cutting very small trees you get sticks too.

I think when it rains it causes sticks to fall from the trees as well

Yep, i have spent some time on looking for a smaller trees, but my starting point is high in the mountains, only large trees available there.
