How long has the game been in development?

After looking at various videos, I am very interested in the game, but I am curious as to how long has the game been in development before coming to early access and what is the time frame the developers have in mind. I know that the devs can’t give a set release date, because it creates pressure from consumers the meet that date or get upset when it so far away. I am simply curious because I would like to know.

I cam across something in the base files of the game that gave me the impression this has actually been in development since 2009 but, I don't know jack about programming or what not so I may be completely mistaken.

Well, it is a bit early to make that call if you ask me. It is only my second Alpha but you games like DayZ that, 6 months after its release, the game is pretty much exactly what it was the day it was opened to the public and no relevant changes have been implemented. This game has been out for barely a week. You must have more patience than that with it. If 6 months from now the game has not changed, I will be joining everyone in the barrage.

just estimating from the level of completeness, i'd say unless they're holding out on content that's already developed, just not included, late 2013 if they were working continuously.

I know that the game came to steam on May 30th (7 days ago) so it is a bit difficult to give a guess.

is it that hard to go to their website check the forums and see they have been working on this for a long time?
