Cutting trees
Anyone else having issues cutting trees? I just swing at nothing, no matter how close or far away from the tree I get and my character gets tired. This is annoying!

The game have some bad colision detection, but it will work, also, the biggest trees can't be cut down.

You need to see the blade physically hit the tree, not swing wildly. Look down at the trunk too.

i've noticed you have to hit them a certain way, and many cant be cut down at all.

I spend most of my time doing this. It is annoying as hell! No matter where I stand, the axe goes thru the tree like it is not even there. I mean, I litterally stand there for 15-20 minutes at a time..........I was hyped for this game.

Lol sometimes i have to face away from the tree for it to register the hit.

The stick is more effective than any of the axes are at cutting down trees. Not sure if its because I can aim better with or what.

first of all, it makes a difference what stamina/power/strength you have! if your blue indicator on the right is very low or not even there and you get an info text like "you need to rest or eat something, you are tired/weak" on your left side, then a normal stroke to a tree will do (almost) NOTHING...

with some stamina/power/strength you have to aim carefully (hit the cut you created - takes longer to create a cut, after that you have to aim for the wood inside the cut, then it'll go faster) and even walk around the tree, to get it where it's still one piece. seriously, i tested it - works!

you can literally beat a tree for 20 minutes straight and it won't chop down at all, if you are out of stamina/power/strength!

if you are full of stamina/power/strength you can stand still and chop down a tree without moving or proper aiming. it'll chop down easily! different tree-sizes = different times to chop it down and different outcome...

i LOVE the cut down trees mechanic in this game, even now. its so cool imho... never seen something like this before. :)

THANKS @ DEVS.

It can seem at times that you are not hitting the tree (even though the arm animation plays) because you are too close to the tree. you are actually chopping the back side through the tree.

Also, swinging at one spot continually will not down a tree (from my experience) but need 2 to 3 locations to fall.

I do have never-ending issues getting it to hit small "stick" trees

I lowered the res and it seemed to help. Just alot just one down and it worked fine. I think the hit box for chopping down trees may be a bug. Try the res thing other wise check the bug forum for more info.

sounds to be the issue is FPS based collision detection. Or the game checks for a collision each frame, the lower your FPS, the less checks and the more likely the axe will "miss" the tree because there are not enough frames per second.

The only time axes miss the trees are if the trees are planted in inconvienant locations. Seeing that the hitbox is near the base of the tree, and some trees can aparently be planted in rock :P I can never hit the hitbox.

The hitbox is not the size of the tree and it adds to a big portion of why it wont hit.

What happens to me is my axe just goes thru the tree. No matter what angle, no matter what the distance. Sometimes I get lucky and hit it a couple of times, but that's it.

My mate has the same problem were as i dont an he 8 core processor an i have a quad core amd but he only has 4g of ram were i have 16?

We both have very good gpu's seems bit odd what you think?
I know its ram ,processor heavy were its not optimized .

I can cut down trees easily now, but it seemed almost impossible the first couple play-throughs. It takes practice to get the distance and angle down ... I try to stand quite close, then swing at the base of the tree and adjust for distance until i hear a hit, then I look up with tree just to the left of center and find the angle for the sweet spot. AFAIK you will see chips fly with every good hit, so if not change your angle a bit and try some more.
