Robinson Crusoe Expansion/DLC Idea?
After playing and watching gameplay of this game 'The Forest' i have come to realise that its in-game atmosphere is very much like the book Robinson Crusoe.

If you do not know what Robinson Crusoe is then here is the main parts of the story:

"Crusoe sets sail from the Queen's Dock in Hull on a sea voyage in August 1651, against the wishes of his parents, who want him to pursue a career, possibly in law. After a tumultuous journey where his ship is wrecked in a storm, his lust for the sea remains so strong that he sets out to sea again. This journey, too, ends in disaster as the ship is taken over by Salé pirates (the Salé Rovers) and Crusoe is enslaved by a Moor. Two years later, he escapes in a boat with a boy named Xury; a Captain of a Portuguese ship off the west coast of Africa and rescues him.

Years later, Crusoe joins an expedition to bring slaves from Africa but he is shipwrecked in a storm about forty miles out to sea on an island (which he calls the Island of Despair) near the mouth of the Orinoco river on 30 September 1659. As for his arrival there, only he and three animals, the captain's dog and two cats, survive the shipwreck as they wash ashore. Overcoming his despair, he fetches arms, tools, and other supplies from the ship before it breaks apart and sinks. He builds a fenced-in habitat near the tree line and finds a small cave where he uses to store items. By making marks in a wooden cross, he creates a calendar. By using tools salvaged from the ship, he hunts, mines, grows barley and rice, dries grapes to make raisins, learns to make pottery, and raises goats. He also adopts a small parrot.

More years pass and Crusoe discovers native cannibals, who occasionally visit the island to kill and eat prisoners. At first he plans to kill them for committing an abomination but later realizes he has no right to do so, as the cannibals do not knowingly commit a crime. He dreams of obtaining one or two servants by freeing some prisoners; when a prisoner escapes, Crusoe helps him, naming his new companion "Friday" after the day of the week he appeared. Crusoe then teaches him English and converts him to Christianity. After more natives arrive to partake in a cannibal feast, Crusoe and Friday kill most of the natives and save two prisoners."

Now as ive read this book over 20 times ive come to realise this game would be mechanically perfect to implement these features. Having a 'Robinson Crusoe Mode' at the main menu will engage in a whole new story but in the same atmosphere.
Maybe make the map a bit less foggy, add farming ability (Not to sure if there is so at the moment as i havent experienced the game as much), add more crafting abilities (weapons, clothing/armour, advanced building options, friendly NPC's (Like the character 'Friday' from the book, after you save him maybe you are able to command him to do certain tasks such as build, gather, craft, etc)

In my opinion i believe this could create a whole different type of entertainment in the same game, more like Survival mode but with a plot/story. (Yes i know the game will be coming out with a enemy 'ON & OFF' feature but this has a story)
I hope many of you support this idea as maybe one day could create something new :)
Thank you for reading and any support is much apprieciated!

I think you could have something here.

I would like to see a trading aspect to the natives. You trade food and useful iteams to ensure you are left alone (or now). Maybe have a few different types of tribes that you could ally with.

There is a lot of scope to build a special world and not just focus of killing.

A pure survival Tarzan/Cursoe game mode would be amazing.. Rain Forest and different Biomes would also be really nice.. could come with different native looks.. crash in a desert.. crash in a jungle.. crash in dunes...

Is this a "through the looking glass" kind of aspect for morality reasons? I would recommend a disclaimer stating, "We do NOT condone slavery".

Wow you guys are just adding to the list haha this possible Crusoe mode would be endless.
Biomes and trading is super smart, i wish something like this could actually happen.
Would make 'The Forest' a wide variety survival game.

Obviously i dont want the slavery aspect to be encouraged... i am just trying to re-tell a true 'Robinson Crusoe' experience which includes Prisoners being deserted upon a island.

Do you really think that I care about what you have to say?

I'm on neutral ground, by the way. I don't care how others lead your life.

Exploration should have plus points too. Maybe have caves and old shelters that have been lived in by previous explorers/victims. You could find things like muskets and swords.... maybe just move into the pre built shelter?

Yes, exploration is key. I like the idea of abandoned shelters, but maybe it depends on how long it's been since the mutations happened because canned foods only stay edible for so long(If there were canned goods). I'm not sure if the devs would ever incorporate firearms in the game, due to the entire game being based on stealth(If you so choose). But, hey; maybe it'd be possible for peaceful mode.

It depends on the wildlife that will inhabit the island. If there will be deer or other large, fast animals then i think some form of a ranged weapon will be needed. A throwable spear or sling would be enought though.

True, especially for the monstrous, mysterious creatures that might be in the game.

I was aiming at no mutation and more towards open world survival, so maybe one day they can incorporate multiplayer..... but that opens up other options. Having a server for you and your friends, you each start on a small island and to get to eachother you will have to go through the basic ways of survival (Build shelter, food, water, etc) then craft a large enough boat to travel to eachothers islands. Its like a first person civilization mode where you have the free option of doing whatever you desire.
Want to cut down a forest and build a town? Want to sail the seas and find another island? YES! Yet again thats gonna make the map HUGE and the size/capability of ones computer has to match.
