Great work :D
Just got way more laugh out of that than expected.
Engaging in combat, having an arena near your base is good in cases like this. Have a tree house to climb and save at in case you die in midfight and also where you can climb to heal if you need to.
Having standing fires in the area will help you see, as well as having normal camp fires around can act as both lighting as traps. (As mentioned before, be aware of your surroundings). Traps can help too, even if they are already activated, smacking them into the trap then pressing "E" to reset it can have it such as the "Death Fall Trap" kill them.
Molotov's can be useful for the first looks, as when they glare you down, they normally are clustered. Molotov's can be used to kill many of the group, a lot less to deal with.
If you are having multipul savage cannibals attacking you and the only thing to your defense is you blocking, sometimes angling it to have one hit the other can cause them to fight. At this moment, run away a bit, regear up, and fight or flight.
Don't rush the fight. Thinking that the fight must end within the next ten seconds can make you choose hasty actions and get you killed. Unlike Skyrim, even with full armor and a good weapon, sometimes it takes more than a few blows to kill these guys. They are smarter than most enemies, sometimes they can climb up trees to avoid you, but they will come back later. They even can fake their own death when you hit them, so when they are down, hit them until they turn their head to the side or are faced down. Sometimes if you knock down the leader, a scrub will run up and pull him back to safety. The women are more aggro than the guys, and sometimes hitting the women gets more guys on you.
Also, very often in combat, a few reinforcements can come in. Sometimes these are savages and they just want the bodies from the guys you just killed (you can hear them munching away at Fredrick Arm Bitter).
As of Weapon tips, The plane axe does have the fastest swing, but the Skull Club, although slower, has knockback and reach which can be a life saver. The Bow can take out some, but be sure to have practice with the bow on some scouting parties, it has no crosshair and can be difficult to learn the aiming. Also, the arrows are harder to come by being that you need feathers, and birds are annoying to kill. So if you get the chance at the beach, murder all the seaguls with a club.
That's all I have. Remember to eat your medicen, and that food as well gives some health, so watch for that. Armor up before going into a fight, and save if you can. It would suck to lose all that progress on a log cabin just because of a scouting party.
Starving mutants - have the lowest HP but are very fast and temperamental. Usually travel in pairs and eat dead bodies. They can be pretty easily taken care of by just focusing on one and beating it down while the other is still surprised. I've noticed the pairs are usually one male, one female. I like to think they're just a couple of star-crossed cannibal lovers trying to make it on their own until a mud-covered madman with a feathery axe comes crashing through the bushes to bring it all to an end.
Semi-clothed mutants - have ragged clothing and often carry weapons. They travel in groups of 3-5 but sometimes more. These seem to be the most common since they travel in large patrols. The patrols always have a leader at the front with a nifty flashlight and very tasteful skull-based decorations. When they come across a dead body, they usually start feasting on it while the patrol leader stands back and keeps guard. Not sure on the HP of these guys, but they definitely have more than the starving ones. I think maybe 6 or more but they're easy to knock down and can be finished off with a solid hit to the head. A good trick is if you catch them eating, toss a molotov in the middle of the feasting group and rush the leader. Even if you don't take out all of the lesser ones, the surprise leaves you enough time to tear the leader apart in front of them and make any survivors scatter.
Tall Naked Mutants (AKA Those guys from "I Am Legend") - This is, I believe, either a third tribe or an "elite" unit of the second tribe. These guys are completely naked and rather tall. They look very similar to the monsters from the movie adaptation of "I Am Legend". They have a ton of health and are very difficult to knock down. They might travel in patrol groups (can't confirm, when I see what looks like a patrol of them, I just resort to fire instead of taking chances) but they also travel alone. These are honestly the only mutants that worry me apart from Armsy and Legsy. They aren't a problem if you can single them out, but when a second or third one shows up I find it hard to keep my stamina up.
You dont need to run with back towards the followers just use your movement keys to go right backwards or left backwards not stopping even circling and walking, to regain stamina works with short burst attacks between to safe energy on the run.
The game is right now very easy as you can shake followers off if your not to cocky at the start of a fight , learn when to stay and when to run early and you can always return!
If you got surprised dont panic .. set a aim to run to and then use your movment and blocking to get safe to a spot where your chances are even for a fight .
If you have no resources to heal make a beeline across the island zig zacking and use water to your advantage it slows em down as well .
Happy building and surviving . my last record of Surviving 60 days is still unbroken yet. Im only dying when i missjudge my own abilities!
btw: Molotov Cocktails are still your friend to dispatch eagerly following natives or cannibals while moving backwards i ready them and wait till they stand almost befor me and then throw a bottle at there feet which almost always takes them out of the chase while not always killing it distracts them to erase the burning liquid on there skin a good while or kills em afterwards.
