Leaves and sticks

Ok maybe im stupid but I AM IN A FOREST, yet i find the only way to get sticks is to chop down trees???? Leaves i found, after 2 hours of messing around is to smash bushes and MAYBE they will give them to me? Shouldnt sticks and leaves be everywhere?? Realy annoying, then again love the game.

are you serious, literally after 10 minutes my inventory is full of sticks and leaves. :s

Same. I can get leaves easily enough from bushes, but sticks (even from chopped trees) seem to be pretty rare.

Its the same thing with me, i almost even died because i didn't manage to get enough sticks. Then i managed to get the last one and finished my shelter. :)

You guys can chop down saplings by doing the downward strike at the bottom. They yeild about 2-3 sticks. Not to mention leaves can be obtained by choping random plants.

Preach, I've died of hypothermia before just because I couldn't get enough leaves (WHILE IN A FOREST!) to get my fire going.

There's a bug in this game that for some reason removes sticks from the world the more you pick up. For example, if you start a save you will have sticks everywhere, and if you pick up 20 sticks and put them in a stick holder you will see that there will be 50% less sticks to find anywhere on the island, and if you manage to pick up 20 more sticks you will almost not find any sticks anywhere you go, even if you go to the other side of the island you will have a hard time finding sticks.
The only solution for me atleast is to just do other things in the game until some time has passed and they will start spawning again, or you can just save the game and reload it and there will be lots of sticks everywhere again. The same thing goes for stones aswell.

This has happened to me since the first time i played this game and it still happends everytime i need to stack up on sticks or stones, and i've heard lots and lots of other gamers with the same issue.

As for the leaves, just go around and cut bushes and you will get 1-4 leaves per bush, they are everywhere so it's not really that hard. If i go on a leaf hunt i will have over 100 leaves after 10 min.

Leaves are everywhere, cutting any bush will yield several leaves. As far as sticks go you dont get any from cutting down the big trees but you'll soon notice that sticks are plentiful under large trees plus when you cut down certain types of bushes they give 2-3 sticks each time and these bushes are everywhere.

If you have cleared a big area of large trees and bushes for building you've eliminated the source of sticks in that area and only respawned bushes will give you sticks each time you log in.

Picking up sticks and rocks seems to be limited somewhat, you can pick up dozens and they keep re-spawning [especially rocks] until you've sucked them all up...easy thing to do when you run out is simply re-log and they will be back.

Sticks can be found by trees without chopping (as if they fell off). But also the shrubs that look like tiny trees, about chest height, give leaves and drop one stick.

I have a good little suggestion about leaf hunting for the people that did not already know it.

When you hit a bush to get leaves you should use a stick or upgraded stick to hit it, and don't use an axe!. Because if you use an axe the bush will be destroyed after 1 hit and you will only get 1-4 leaves.
But if you use a stick you can hit the bush 2 times before the bush get destroyed and you will still get 1-4 leaves for every hit, witch means you will get the double amount of leaves per bush using a stick.

Just a little suggesting for the new players that are in need of leaves ;)

The best item for leaf harvesting is the bone. Every time you hit a bush or stick tree with any item that can be swung, it will give you 1-2 leaves. But the bone only deals little damage to bushes and plants, so you can get like 5 hits out of one stick tree (stick trees are also referred to as "saplings", the ones that drop sticks when destroyed). Also, some areas on the map do have less stick trees than others.

IMPORTANT: READ ALL OF THE NEXT PART WITHOUT STOPPING MID-WAY
Sticks do spawn around trees that have not been cut down yet, so even if you have tree regrowing on and a tree regrows, that particular tree WILL NOT spawn sticks around it anymore.

So if you're planning to live in an area with few stick trees (like the snow) keep a few trees fenced off or something to remind yourself not to cut them down and you can gather sticks from that. But with stick trees and bushes, they will all respawn/regrow if you save, exit and reload.
