Food
When you create a rabit cage how are you supposed to get the rabbits in there? And with the farm how do you grow the food? Is this actually available yet or is this a to come thing.

The rabbit cage can be placed, but the functionality of capturing rabbits hasn't been implemented yet. You can only kill rabbits.

Do the rabbit cages work now? I set out two of them and have yet to catch anything. Am I better off making farms?

You place rabbit traps to capture the rabbits. You HAVE to place these in the areas rabbits can be seen and ofc its not 100% what kind of realistic game would give you a gaurentee of a rabbit wandering into your traps? I find placing the traps in forested areas (not areas you have cleared) and where you have seen the rabbits running around. I sometimes get a couple a day, sometimes the trap remains empty. Its by chance by the seems of it.

You can then pick them up, reset your trap and take the rabbit you are holding into the cage. Though i have yet to see any "breeding" IE increase of rabbits in the cage (I think i may be too impaitent) But the trap/cages do work.

Food is easy to come by. Gardens work. Traps can work. Scavanging luggage is a good way for soda and candy bars. I tend to stick too chasing animals down with a sharp stick myself (quicker than an axe) or going fishing. As long as you dont kill ALL of the animals off. They should repopulate. Pretty sure it said this in a patch note or something. And i have noticed in game that killing tons off means its difficult to find anymore in that area.

Thanks for the tips!

I am just trying to survive for a day right now. I built some defensive walls with a door around the front of the plane opening until I can figure out how to get a small foot hold.

I am in a forested area and have seen rabbits and racoons running around. I killed a deer once with my axe, but couldn't do anything with the corpse.

Deers dont have anything coded as in drops yet. Same for racoons. Birds drop feathers (for arrows), Rabbits give meat, fish give meat, and Lizards give meat and Skin that can be used for armour.

If you really want to get knowledge of the game before you try surviving. I would suggest trying "Veganmode" and playing around a little. Thats what i did to grasp the game before playing it properly. Type Veganmode at the main title screen of the game.

Ah nice. I am going to try it now. Does it work with current saves or do I start over? No biggie either way.
