A story can EASILY be altered for COOP
I really dont see the need for multiplayer in everything
I have no need for a slightly prettier carbon copy of the same gameplay. So why do you? You that vain?
Resident Evil was scary until it went all Japanese-Anime Action Adventure on us. Deadspace was scary, but inevitably EA tried to "broaden it's audiance". Niche genres cave in and implode under the weight and pressure of having to cater to the generalized masses, people who aren't gamers in the first place. But fine. Whatever. That's a whole 'nother can of worms. Neither here nor there.
Something can be said for isolation and being absolutely alone in a game world that wants to destroy you. Isolation is a huge part of fear.
Be happy with single player. Be happy with the prospect of Co-Op. If you still want PvP, if you still want to join the masses of sosciopathic squeak-teens and murder each other in an open world you have pretty much dozens of options available to you that are not The Forest.
There are a lot of reasons some games just don't have PVP (or multiplayer in general), but in this specific case, it would just be plain stupid to go PVP since the game is clearly not designed for it.
It's about surviving some sort of fresh hell, not to "faceroll and teabag Noobz".
Why turn something that has been designed from the ground up as a Survival Horror experience into another competitive FPS deathmatch? If people want to comment on the potential of The Forest to be more like DayZ or Rust, then why not simply play DayZ or Rust? Games don't need to be converted to fit the mould of other games.
You don't hire a String Quartet then ask them to bring a Laptop and play Dubstep.
but the truth is that as you game for a long time, the ai should become too easy and in order to get more and more of a challenge, you move on to MP games. when you have a legit mp community online, it becomes a thing of beauty.
problem is, large portion of the gamers begging for PvP are actually younger gamers as well. they are the ones who tend to turn a game south fast. the older gamers usually find "interesting" things to do in a game besides using the engine to play cod. clans tend not to enjoy smoking solo noobs because... what's the point? that doesn't mean a buncha kids can't throw some clan tags on and run around griefing the masses under the guise of being a clan, but that's not a clan.
the last factor in all this is the map design and scale: the reason most of the pve people don't like the pvp part is that the maps are too small, still and they aren't designed in a way to integrate all play styles together, both pve and pvp players. there is a way to do that, but it wouldn't fit this game model or map as it stands.
that being said, if you want MP on this game... go the route of "Lost" and let each clan or group "take" their own "island". then, if you REALLY wanna go grief other players... all ya gotta do is: go down in the caves, get the parts, build a raft, gather supplies, get more parts, build more rafts and hope you can make it to the enemy island as a group without drowning. pve folks get a "break" because unless you come in at night, you're gonna be seen for miles and pvp folks who are really hardcore have the option to "go attack those dudes".
win/win
mostly for the sharks.
Peace
