How do you clear caves?

I'm going for the achievement and have 1/10. I go inside other caves and come out the other end, pick up everything I can inside, but my count doesn't go up.

There are trigger locations you have to end up at. You could thoroughly explore every inch of a cave and still not get credit because you didn't hit that trigger location, or you can get credit for those caves while barely even checking them out because you did hit those locations. In game, your best indication is your to-do list. the "explore _ cave" prompts that you get on the to-do also track these trigger locations, so if the cave exploration is crossed off in your to-do list then it should also apply towards the achievement (be aware it can take steam some time to update that progress though, my steam went from 7/10 to achievement unlocked when i got mine).

If you are consulting the wiki for some assistance there's an oddly specific note worth mentioning, but ill put it in spoiler in case you are trying blind:
The "continue exploring hanging cave" to-do list item can be confusing when consulting the wiki, as that section of the cave is not actually considered to be hanging cave on the wiki. It is instead called "baby cave". It is indeed connected to hanging cave, and it's a pretty small section, so im not entirely sure why it got it's own name, but it did.

Thanks loads. I had went back to explore them all over again and cleared a handful of them, i see why its referred to as the Baby cave because of all the dead babies leading up to that small section lol.
