The truth about poison berries. *GUIDE*
You may have decided that poison berries bushes are nothing but bad news and only fit to be cleaved by your axe. You should think twice before you do that however. Poison berries do hurt your health a bit when you eat them. What you may have not noticed is that they also fill your stomach a bit and give you a bit of energy. The amount of health lost verses the amout of energy and belly filling it does makes this a viable food source. The benefit really shows when you're exploring or if you can't find any food. When you're stomach is completely empty, you loose energy quite rapidly. If you stumble across a patch of berries, as long as you have 1/4 health or more(Most people have full health unless recently visited by the natives), you can eat the poison berries to stop(or stop from happening) the quick energy loss from an empty tummy and get an energy charge to boot. If you find six bushes together, you'll loose around 1/4 health if you eat them all but gain 1/2 filled stomach and 1/2 filled energy on top of what you already had. Not a bad exchange if you ask me, and it'll be most likely enough to get you back to your base camp where you can properly find or cook good food.

It’s a good tip I have done it while exploring, However………. They may change the toxicity of these berries in a future update to be more painful. This is the mother in me speaking, with life experience.

Let me give you an example, My Significant other was in the habit of placing things on the wood stove during the summer. He said it was perfectly safe since we didn’t use it during the summer. I told him, yeah now its ok, but its probably not a good habit over all.

Low and behold I came home from work one evening and I find our electric fan melting and listing to the side on top of the wood stove.

I had to go to the back of the house and shut of the breaker powering the outlet the fan was plugged into before I could attempt to remove the melting fan from the stove. When he got home from his short trip to the store I asked him if that was the smartest thing. He never did answer me, but he never used the wood stove as a table again.

Just a thought about building habits.

I am pretty sure the Twin Berries are going to actually poison you (the system for getting rid of poison is not in the game, so they don't poison you at the moment)

I ate some black berries with the red petals, I had only been in the game 3/4 mins, it was dark and all I saw was the eat icon, within seconds I had the red screen telling me I am dead and I lasted one day, the grey looking twin berries just do as described above, so watch for those black ones in the red petals

Im so confused on what's good and what's not. The only berry bush I've seen is a white berry bush with a bunch of berrys on the tip, like the crown one the book described. I ate one and I started hurling *Not really but the noise the guy makes*. It wasnt the twin berry thing but I don't know what Indego is so =P

I think they should add the ability to extract poison from the twinberries to poison weapons. Would add a new option to combat: poisoning a weapon then striking a cannibal would poison them, and likely cause their death. This would be interesting to see.

I expect that in future patches you will get sick from eating the wrong berries, just like from drinking contaminated water. For now eating those berries isnt too bad.
I hope they will get another use like poison to add to weapons or maybe even poison stuff at their base.
For the indigo berries, they are blue. Collect those in a berry pouch (2x rabbit skin) so you can always take care of your hunger/thirst. Plenty of those around :)
