I can never kill deer, HELP!
Like the title says.

I can always hit with my first shot of my bow, but then it goes crazy and runs off pelmel into the forest, I can never catch it, let alone get a second shot.

How the hell am I supposed to hunt deer? Can I kill it with a fire arrow and still get hide?

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong and I can't seem to find anything online.

I just run after it and smack it with something until it falls. Arrows are kind of tricky on moving targets and deers will stop occasionaly when they think they've gotten away.

Don't know about whether fire arrows remove hides or not, but now i might have to go deer hunting with fire.....

yeah fire arrows will kill them don't use regular arrow those things are a dud.
once you hit them with the fire arrow they will burn for a while taking damage you have to chase them down so you can recover a deer skin and 4 generic meat.

you can hunt them using the spear too. your right click to aim and left click to throw
i never tried hunting with it and i only use it for spear fishing

Supernoob is right, best way to hunt deer is with fire arrows, often one arrow will drop it right where it stands but sometimes it will run off while its on fire and die nearby...just keep it in sight. You still get the deer hide and meat.

Thanks, I was hoping this was so, but figured fire would destroy the hide. That or I was missing some sort of better arrow somewhere that could do it in one shot.

Try to aim for the head/neck and you'll have better odds of dropping it in one place without having to pursue. Nothing kills the celebration of downed game faster than realizing you have no clue where you are and you have 'friends' around you with that look on their face.

Also, bear in mind, the longer you hold the bow at full draw, the straighter the arrow will fly (and presumably, the harder it hits). So hold for a 5 sec count before letting it loose.

I usually use the spear.
One throw
One kill

Indeed. When I do that, it goes something like this:

One throw.
Goes high.
Deer runs.
No Deer.
Lost Spear.
New Friends.
No Stam.
Hungrier, thirstier, more tired and less inventory than when I started.

Bow just feels more right to me, and I have 29 more chances to miss should I miscalculate or the animal moves.

I can actually outrun the deer when they veer left or right so I run up and hit them with a spear or plane axe.

I don't get what the big deal is, honestly. Just hit them once with an arrow. They'll run for a couple of meters and very quickly stand still again (Atleast in my experience), hit again, profit.

That's not always the case though. I've had many deer that will run and for some reason, will not stop again for a while and if i don't chase, i lose track of them.

better use spear for spear fishing rather than deer hunting i hate having to retrieve after throwing it.

Yeah, fire arrows seem to be the way to go, So far they don't run, just drop dead in their tracks.

Huh. My arrows are just literally *bouncing* off of the deer. Is this... normal?
