epic is dev and publisher friendly, they give people the option to make a game and not be a greedy bunch of pricks by stealing 1/3 of the cut of the game by simply having it on their platform. people say epic games is trying to take money away from steam and by making epic exclusives, just remember that steam owned the pc games market for over 10 years, 90% of the games on pc you could only get through or require steam to play. not to mention the countless console exclusive games that pc gamers dont even get to play.
and for all of you that think epic games are scum and they should receive no money, go into your games list and see what games you have that run off the unreal engine (especially borderlands) because every sale from a game that uses the unreal engine, epic games takes a cut, so regardless you are helping them make money, and thats ok, we all need to make money somehow and its about time someone stood up against steam and gave developers a better deal.
also first things first you clearly did not read the comments we dont care how successful any platform is most of us here only want games on one platform not several also the main reason why people dont like Epic games because PC gaming is an Open market for devs they can choose between any platforms they want but epic games is like "oh you are a new dev well we will give you Exclusive rights for said amount of time then you can put your game onto other platforms" if you really think about it WHY would epic games want to give out exclusive titles like candy
Main reason why The open market
they force devs to not be able to go to multiple platforms if they want just to have a Stupid title for their game which will in one way or another hurt the devs because for that said mount of time they can not put their game on any other platform for that time
another reason why people dont like Epic games if they do not fear steam in any way as a competitor why are they trying SO HARD to beat steam by tossing out so much money and giving "exclusive titles"
also just because games use the unreal engine dose not mean we are supporting Epic games its just an engine for games nothing more games
and you'll be surprised, plenty of people out there outright hate epic games for seemingly no reason and say they wouldnt give a cent to them if it kills them, i look into their games list and see they have all the borderlands series and say epic gets a 5% cut from every copy sold using the unreal engine, and they shut up immediately.
People dont know why they hate epic they just do, once epic goes into the market more they wouldnt need to do so many exclusives to get a foothold, thats the only way they can start getting customers besides steam and once the 6 month exclusive is up, they can post on steam and get even more money. if you had to choose between putting all your eggs in one basket and getting taxed 30% for each egg, or put 40% of your eggs in one basket and 60% in another, the 40% being taxed only 20% with an initial payout, and the other basket the normal tax. you'd choose the split basket because regardless of how you put it, you're getting the same if not more sales, while you get a bigger cut of the pie
the only reason why they are taking so little cuts from Devs is because they have fortnite money
kids spending mom and dads hard earned money to buy cosmetics to buy battle passes etc eventually people are going to stop playing fortnite and Epic games are going to run into problems and they will start having to take bigger cuts from Devs because if you were to look at all the games VALVE made only one comes to mind that makes them money on a "regular" basis and thats Team fortress 2 popular in the day it made steam a lot of money now sice the game is basicly dead it makes them vary little money so they have to take bigger cuts from devs to keep servers up to keep paying for server maintenance steam, support services and reviewing people who are trying to upload a game etc all this basic stuff and more
and like i have said it once and i will say it a million more times their is more then one way for a Dev to make money off their game then from steam but no one ever thinks of them
one day epic games is going to be no better then steam taking larger cuts from devs may not be today or tomorrow but once fortnite dies its game over for them and devs
As EPIC being better for devs, I understand there are reasons for that, but I am not a developer they do not effect me. I am a consumer, so I use the more consumer friendly one.
EDIT; To add more to it, the lack of functionality on EPIC also puts me off, although you come across a lot of crap on Steam, the ability to review and comment on forums such as these is a big bonus, and I find it weird that EPIC did not release with out any sort of functionality.
I do see the Steam didn't start with this argument a lot, Steam didn't but steam started almost 20 years ago.
Do you go to buy a car and when it doesn't have airbags accept "A 1907 model-T didn't have airbags" No you don't. Epic is released now, so it should have everything a modern platform has.
If Steam was only new I would still expect all these modern luxuries with it.
And EPIC is a lot different that Steam when it first started, Steam was produced by Valve a small but renowned developer and publisher.
EPIC is 40% owned by Tencent, Tencent is the largest gaming company in not only in China but the world, they are also the largest media corp in China, they are fully backed and financially supported by the CCP. The two are worlds apart in terms of how they started out.
If anything slack should not be given at all for EPIC as the have billions of dollars to throw at EPIC store if they so wished. Steam never had that money, they were still very small when they started Steam with the Release of Half-Life and still to this day offer the most complete platform.
2 hrs is a fkn joke especially when you account for how they calculate time played.
Ill buy The Forest 2 wherever it is.
