the other leads back to the surface and along the way you can find the modern bow. but this also requires the rebreather. the same cave also has the pedomenter and the tennis racket.
There are a few tents already inside the cave down there that you can save at, mostly along the main path out (the one that would take you near the tennis racket and pedometer, there are technically several routes in and im not sure which method you used). Otherwise stock up on leaves and invest in a stick bag. A stick bag lets you carry 20 sticks, and a few caves (including chasm cave, the one leading down to crater, as well as the crater itself) have extra sticks you can collect along the way to restock but they wont have actual bushes for the leaves (though for the purpose of building the temp shelter it is worth noting that paper money actually also counts as "leaves" on that one and that can be found in caves pretty reliably. I nothing else turn a hanging corpse into a pinata, they drop cash sometimes). A temp shelter is 14 sticks and something like 26 leaves so the stick bag ensures you can at least drop one, possibly more if you find more sticks to.
edit:(im aware you have a stick bag already, i just always post info generalized enough for people searching to benefit from it as well)
Actually telling you how to do so in text on the other hand, might be the challenging part. If still in the actual crater, there is one of those big metal doors that should open if you didnt already open it getting in. There's a pretty straight shot at first but there are also enemies if you havent cleared them out yet. If you find 2 octo/armsy's, thats the chamber youd need the bomb for the wall in (again, assuming this isnt already cleared from getting down here in the first place). First major fork is the spider den. Its a larger and partially submerged open chamber that normally has 2 spiders, a few greys, and an annoying amount of babies (this is also the chamber with the route to modern bow if you did have rebreather, so if double checking an external map that can be a good indicator for you to). If coming from crater, stick to the right wall if trying to leave, you might even be able to sneak through without being noticed by anything but the greys near the wooden boards you gotta break through. After that the general rule is keep going up. Some sections slope slightly downward before rising again though, so its not 100% up all the time until you hit the climbing ropes (there are some ropes getting there, but i mean a section that is basically just rope after rope after rope with thin cliff ledges in between). theres also a tent to save at a bit after that boarded wall in the spider den, which is delightful, and check the edges of walls in that tunnel because there are some meds and candies in little wall nooks as well. The tent also has a campfire if you happen to still have food worth cooking (and if you have the old pot, even spoiled meat can be safe to eat in a stew).
The Rope section is the part that I dont know i could effectively describe in a helpful way, there's a few options and many just lead to a dead end with some lore related item, but the correct path zig-zags up the various options. Eventually you can brute force your way through just trying the various options though (just dont take the path to the right near the top, it does lead to pedometer and tennis racket but you'd also just have to backtrack back without the climbing pick to and there's a spider in that chamber). There are sections with climbing walls that imply you might NEED the pick to get out, but you actually dont. You can jump across the cliff gaps to use the ropes on the other side and then jump back across at the higher gap (though this is part of why i mention the save earlier, because it is possible to fall to your death by missing the jump but most the time even when you miss you fall onto a lower ledge which hurts can be survived normally, if you do fall further down, TRY to aim for the water...though easier said than done).
Theres another route through the dead (katana) cave that i believe also connects to the spider den on the left side, but im far less familiar with that route to try and describe it in text.
Edit: if you are desperate to get out and text description just aint doing it, there is an external map you can reference as wel:

Anyhow, this problem is solved (by jumping off a 4-storey cliff) so this thread will now close. Thank you for all the help & advice!
I didn't get to where you are yet but I know you can build simple shelters inside caves, and make a save. As long as you don't sleep in it, it remains there.
On the other hand, if you cleared out the cave, you might still visit it on occasion but don't need to save as much anymore.
So you might be able to make a simple shelter just outside of the area you're visiting and at least, you don't have to reload from far away. I have pretty much decided I'll be making save shelters right outside of caves or in some areas of caves, so that I can try to reduce how much stuff I have to repeat due to dying. It has come in handy several times already.
And I'll leave this next part here for others who may come upon this thread -- one of the ways to get out of the sinkhole area is to let the cannibals win the fight.
If you haven't already been recently, then they'll now drag you to their main camp and you can get back out into the world map from that cave.
