the sleep timer can vary if you sleep too late in the night.

or its the infamous no sleep bug. this bug means whenever the worldsave is loaded (only as host) the sleep timer resets to zero which means 1 and a half day need to pass for beeing able to sleep. after that it works like normal thankfully.

there is no fix for the no sleep bug. once a savegame is affected its affected for good sadly. pretty annoying bug but not gamebreaking as the sleep is back to normal after the first night after loading the game.

one of the few remaining bugs they really should have fixed.

but its too late now. if sons really comes out in 2 months this game dies anyway.

Nerevar covered it perdy darn well actually, it's likely related to the sleep cooldown timer and/or a potential bug of that system. Not much I can add there.

What i can add is that depending on the purpose of your sleeping habits (specifically the two most common reasons: tree regrowth vs dark is low visibility/scary to some) there may be other workarounds available even in the cases you are forced to stay up all night.
-Tree regrowth can occur even when you can not sleep, as long as the option is enabled in your settings. The difference is that it is a much slower rate when unable to sleep and often happens to trees outside of the currently rendered area (which can be annoying because the currently rendered area is probably the base you just cleared a hectare of forest to build, that you'd like to regrow now) while sleeping restores ~10% of stumps in one instant from anywhere that is missing trees and still has intact stumps.
-Darkness is indeed intended to be dark, but games are also meant to be visible as well and this game is known for having a wildly variably brightness across different systems. Luckily there are actually a lot of options to help with that. There are indeed some brightness sliders in your settings, but in my case they did almost nothing. What instead works for many is to go through the options available for the "color grading" or "color gradient" (something like that, i havent fiddled with it in ages) setting. They are basically different filters/visual pre-sets for the game. Different machines can have different results, but from what I have seen the majority of players find that either M131, Super, or Texas are most likely to brighten their game up to a reasonable degree. Dark will still be dark, but you can change it so you arent just downright blind (and might be able to have rather good night vision as well, though caves are still mostly pitch black outside of your chosen light source).

Thank you very much for the explanations. At least I now know that it is a bug. Will now just prepare things to do at night. Cheers.
