You can store rocks in it.
You manually control it when aiming and get a displayed aiming arc.
Three stones are fired at a time, good against large groups.
Molotovs and Bombs will be usable ammo eventually, be nice against big mutants.
Overall, I haven't used it enough because my base is at a low elevation, but if placed on a platform inside of a walled stronghold, it could be very useful for defense.
Yes you can, the rocks remain dynamic objects through flight, impact, and after they land on the ground. A very well thought out feature indeed.
My only complaint about them is that you can not destroy them after you place them on the ground. So, if you want to build one to play around with and get a good feel for how it works, build it somewhere far away so you dont have to worry about it getting in your way.
Hopefully being able to break em down like everything else will come in the next update.

This is a very good question. Would love to have some dev insight on this.
I believe the rocks would damage as shrapnel. There is physics in the game to account for logs flying and hitting players, I think we can assume the same system is used for rocks.
