So that catapult
"Burning" question I have since it was introduced.
How is it? Do you like it? Do you use it often? (I haven't gotten around it yet)

I want to use it way badly, ive just never felt comfortable enough in my base to start. I kinda want to fill the islands and lakes with catapults.
The range is kind of short. Best used at high elevations.

You can store rocks in it.

You manually control it when aiming and get a displayed aiming arc.

Three stones are fired at a time, good against large groups.

Molotovs and Bombs will be usable ammo eventually, be nice against big mutants.

Overall, I haven't used it enough because my base is at a low elevation, but if placed on a platform inside of a walled stronghold, it could be very useful for defense.

How good is the grouping of the 3 rocks?

I just tried it out for the first time yesterday. There was a cowman and a group of three greys heading towards my base. I jumped up on my catapult tower I just built and fired two shots into the cowman, and he exploded on the second hit! Then I fired a shot into the 3 greys who were clustered together- the spread was able to take out two of them on first contact, so then I charged and hacked the third up with my axe. Wasn't impressed with the catapult in the first location I built it, but now I love it!

Can you collect the rocks again after firing?

Yes you can, the rocks remain dynamic objects through flight, impact, and after they land on the ground. A very well thought out feature indeed.

My only complaint about them is that you can not destroy them after you place them on the ground. So, if you want to build one to play around with and get a good feel for how it works, build it somewhere far away so you dont have to worry about it getting in your way.

Hopefully being able to break em down like everything else will come in the next update.

Does that mean you could otherwise propel rocks and use that as a weapon? Like pile up rocks and throw a dynamite at it, take out cannibals with flying rocks? Drop them from high up? Or is the rocks hurting things specific to being fired from the catapult?

My first shot from mine took out two Canni's. I like it!

This is a very good question. Would love to have some dev insight on this.

I believe the rocks would damage as shrapnel. There is physics in the game to account for logs flying and hitting players, I think we can assume the same system is used for rocks.

Oh man, build an enclosed space for an entryway, stack it with rocks, make them funnel in, bomb it, anything that survives the initial bomb will catch rocks to the face. Shame we cant build better drop traps, just set a pile of rocks on a trap door to fall on them.
