How to attract mutants ? I'm trying my best.
Hello guys, just a quick post to ask you a question : how can I attract special mutants near my base, in order to make the game more challenging ?

I built several bases and am currently focusing on my Geese Lake one, I chopped trees like crazy in order to circle the lake with defensive walls, don't destroy any totems the natives are building, and yet I'm still waiting to see some Virginias/Armsies/Cowmen near me... 50h into the game, caves cleared (doesn't encounter any special mutants in 'em), and as great as the game is, I would love to be more challenged into combat. When I chop trees and build my walls, I always encounter small packs of grey natives and slicing them is piece of cake. I kinda miss the feeling of being threatened I felt when beginning the game.

Any tip is more than welcome. I encountered several Virginias on the surface before, even one cowman (but no Armsy whatsoever). Is there any mod to provoke this ? It would be great to see one official mode added to the game, the exact opposite of "veganmode" where you're assaulted by numerous cannibals.

Build the thing under "Fire" built a Bone fire (dosent requires bone only wood and some leafes) trust me with that 1-2 mutants every 4mins

I tried bonfires (three of 'em) in my alternative base near the lake and it only attracted classic cannibals, and not a lot. Gonna try this again near the Geese Lake.

ohhh you meant muttants hmmmm theres no way so far, the spawn rate is really rare if they spawn on grass (NOT IN CAVES) :)

Try to kill a few in the caves, it worked for me.

You'll never recapture the feeling of difficulty. Once you learn the mechanics and "git gud" the challenge stops there. It's at the point now where I can take 6+ with nothing but an unmodded plane axe. I love the game, I just wish it were harder.

It mainly depend where you build the camp.

I don't think the geese lake is a good option since it's located upon the water surface, where the cannibals cannot reach you.

Try building near their camps, kill them even in the daylight.
Be the hunter, not the hunted.
Build effiges, use lots of fire.

Eventually they will spawn. I had them coming into my base on day 2, the welcoming party was made of one armsy and 2 blue virginias. My base is near the camp where they drag you the first time you're captured, which is also very near a cave entrance.

Same here. I really look for a "hardcore mode" in the near future.

Anyway, thanks for your tips, lads. I'll do as you say and wish for the mutated horrors to come and try to get me.

I think the mutants came out from the caves when you have reached day 30-50(I don't remember).

Be sure you clear the forests with bombs. Makes noise, alot.

Are you kidding me? I'm overrun with mutants and the big ones at that. I have to play Iron Forest just to keep my base from constantly being destroyed.

Well, I guess it all depends on the players. I'm not the only one to find the game quite easy and to ask for more challenge. I'm day 80 and the last mutant encounter I had was 10 hours ago.

Just so you know, I tried three bonfires near my base, it gave me some challenge : on only one night, I butchered 20+ natives. Free bones ftw. Gonna try the bombs and the dynamite deforestation to attract the baddies.

Seems as though it is repeating itself, odd.
