Houseboat building?

So havent played in a while, and saw that they tried to make houseboats more usable, and one thing i was curious about was if you could build furniture on the houseboat?

I personally havn't tried this, as I got the game in the last Humble Monthly, and I am still working out how to avoid natives...but I am interested to see what happens here, becuase if you can, I might just go build a house boat.

We were able to put 2 log holders and a stick holder on our houseboat for resource gathering trips. Although one of our log holders looks like it's full all the time (bug?). Placement was a bit tricky, but that could be down to the fact that we've only been playing for two days. :)

I'm building a bed on mine, and I've seen people saying they can build the fire pit in the houseboat, so there's that.

Works:
- bed
- fire pit

Doesn't work:
- drying rack
- water collector
- wall planter
- hanging skull lantern (this worked for Freake420, but I've tried placing it all over any bit of ceiling in the boat house without luck)
- bench
- climbing rope

That's nice that you can build the collectors on it. That would make it nice for hauling supplies longer distances. I wish you could do drying rack / water collector / wall planter on it also. I also wish you could more eaily access the roof (even if you had to build something to do so) and put some stuff up there (like the drying rack and water collector, and maybe an arrow basket).

I got the house boat close to a rock, and was able to build a drying rack blueprint pretty much on the roof. It was sunken about half way in... but certainly not touching anything on the ground, just the house boat. When I finished it, the drying rack stayed completely stationary (floating in space effectively), but the houseboat started bouncing around, while staying hinged to the drying rack. I eventually was able to chop the drying rack up and free the houseboat (with a little sap for repairs).

Drying rack and water collector is super important, dev need to fix it so we can build it on the boat.

I would like those also... though if I could have only one thing it'd be fire pit. Second thing would be bed. And we have those 2 for now.

Bone/arrow basket would be nice also.

Actually, most important thing would be to be able to get on without flipping it... which apparently used to be the problem. Glad I joined after that was fixed. That's huge. But it'd still be OK, game has plenty even without boats. Getting better though.

i know this thread is 3 years old but with the new additions and stuff to the house boat ive encountered a bug where i cannot actually place the houseboat it gives me a red highlighted houseboat no matter where i try to place it. ive tried making a dock and that didnt seem to work

now we are in 2022- any news to the house boat ? I would like to know if I can build something to access the roof easily to construct racks and collectors there.
OR any way to expand the boat (make it bigger) so I could add the stairs ?

just build a water collector near the entrance along the walls and you can then jump onto that and from there onto the roof. and that is just one method. racks can be build inside the boat aswell.

you cannot expand the boat anymore with custom stairs. they removed that long ago.
