"Saving is a mechanic that saves the game, it can only be done on certain buildings and game objects. You cannot save the game in random locations without the use of Console Commands or mods."
And that means normal saving like in other games just where you are is not possible?
But, concerning saving your game, you must have certain structures built to save/rest with - shelters, or the bed...but there are also some places already part of the world where you can save/rest at, like tents or the yacht, etc. And keep in mind that when you custom build things, those things do not have a save/rest option included. You must still add something like the bed to or in these structures.
Holy... everything is literally written in the game. Is it really THAT hard? Why people can't just spend few more minutes to investigate or experiment?
Technically, you can save everywhere, if you build a bed or a shelter. Making a fire has nothing to do with it. The cheapest shelter needs just a bunch of sticks and leafs. When you approach it, you'll see encircled Z (to sleep) and encircled C (to save). No need to press C hundred of times - press it once and hold for a second.
You're pretty much one of the few person that has issues about how to save ^^
It's a survival game, and building some sort of shelter is pretty much the first thing you want to do anyways, if you want to survive.
Use the survivyl book. It tells you what to do. and there's also an option of a temporary shelter you can build in no time. ;-)
If even that isn't quite enough, I'm fairly certain there is a mod specifically for saving at will. If not im sure that command is part of some of the other available mods, or you could take a crack at using the console instead. I know with my hectic irl schedule ive had to use the console to save so i could bail on short notice in a place like a cave where i already used my resources. There's a forum floating around here somewhere, pinned I think, about the use of ModApi, that would be the mod info (its old, but can still lead you to the newer sources). The console info can be found on the wiki. Trying to explain either, or both, in greater detail here would make an already long post even worse.
(don't tell people about mods or console lol there is enough abuse of this already ruining mp servers)
Because of game glitches AND gameplay you should build a tmp save shelter inside each cave you go into and reuse this save as you re enter the cave later on to get stuff.
It is quite beneficial to get 1 rabbit skin right off the bat and make a stick bag so you can carry 20 sticks many morons run around out of sticks like idiots anyway keep 20 sticks on hand at all times and when ya need to make a tmp shelter save WHAM its easy ....
once inside many caves there are more sticks to get in lots of places ...
check your leaves periodically at game start keep it high soon you will always have enough leaves unless you get into making leaf traps and or using leaves with the lizard skins ...
