I caught one of those big lizards in a rabbit trap

The trap was down but no grab the rabbit icon .. then I saw the lizard just sitting there ... then I brought up my spear and stabbed it then whilts pressing E key it whacked it and skinned it as usually then I reset the trap ...

The animal traps can catch a few smaller critters, but only the rabbit has an actual item for a living variant the player can capture (meaning the rabbit is the only one you can catch without needing to just kill it or let it go). Always find it irritating to find a squirrel wasted my trap, but finding out that the animal traps can also capture the babies was highly amusing. (bonus info worth noting, putting an animal trap in water deep enough to submerge it will instead make it a fish trap, and there is even an achievement for catching a fish with this method. Like the other critters though, it only works if you put it somewhere those critters actually spawn and move through).

Edit: I can confirm fish traps also attract animals next to the shore.

Thanks for the fish trap thing I spear fish but as of late it is taking me 4 tries to spear it then the drink water thing pops up and gets in the way ... I have seen some use the metal axe on the fish what about the bow ... spear is great if I can figure out how to aim but the trap is nice too as its faster easier

This is great sometimes I need a specific animal and can't find it or takes to much time as soon as the sun goes up seems its getting dark again and I have to go to my safe room and sleep

This is not an abuse of the game because ya can be out in the pitch dark with camo on and the mutants still find you and wherever you set up a camp they show up and snoop around. Then I'm realizing more difficult to kill mutants show up then on top of that whoever you kill its just respawns wouldn't it be great that if you killed a mutant it meant something that they only reproduced every 100 days or something a l o o o n n g time ... then when ya killed one it would cause different strategies to be used supposedly in most caves this is the case ... well, thats great

You could shoot fish with the bow, if that was what you were asking, but admittedly I don't see many fishing that way. I know I don't because I hoard modern arrows, which have to be found rather than crafted so I tend to avoid shots I dont need to take. I don't need extra reasons to lose arrows ( bow fishing isnt guaranteed to make you lose arrows or anything, just that it can be easy to lose track of the shot fish underwater and every time you do fire an arrow the arrow has a chance to break to). OH! but guess how else you can fish that is ridiculous but hilarious....you can also dynamite fish. Worth doing at least once just because it's fun, but definitely not worth doing as your default fishing method.

In SP or as Host in MP games, you can shoot fish with the slingshot and collect them in the water (sometimes killing 2 or 3 with a single shot). But for some reason, Clients in MP games can't do this.

Slingshot has AOE (area of effect) damage, you don't need to hit something exactly on target. This is why I use it to shoot down outbound flying geese for their heads too.
