I find active hunting better if you are trying to catch them for initial food reasons rather than caging them though. A bow can be made with 1 stick, a cloth, and a rope and does wonders for killing rabbits if you can get the hang of aiming it (you can find arrows around the map, or make your own with 5 feathers and a stick). If archery isn't your thing, then you might also be able to melee them with a long range melee, the easiest of which to obtain is a weak spear (2 sticks). You want to save up your stamina and essentially ambush them. Either sprint up with a downward stab before they run off, or push them towards terrain like rivers that can help you corral/trap them to kill.
If you find yourself starving all the time, expand your food options. Berries can be found throughout the world, the blue and blackberries are fine to eat. white and red berries hurt, but can also be collected once you have a pouch to add poison to weapons. Most ponds, rivers, and bodies of water have fish, and spear fishing is a great easy way to get meat when your other hunting isn't going well. turtles spawn on beaches as well and are very slow. They drop a shell which can help with your water needs, as well as 2 generic meat. Just aim for the neck/head.
Thank again for that info. I just discovered the fish so we are not starving to death now. :) Keep getting killed by mutants though! Can't stay alive past day 3 or 4. :( Working on it though. :)
I finally found a pot so we are no longer dying of thirst. But maybe you can answer a question here: When I put meat on the campfire, I can't take it off and put it in my pack. I have to eat it.
So how do I build up a reserve of food to eat?
Hmm. Stew, eh? I never saw that option. That's one of my biggest complaints about this game. Have no idea what I can make until I drop items into my mat in my inventory bag? You know now long I went with an axe before I realized I could make a club? Not until I accidentally hit combine on a skull and it went into the mat. So what else am I missing? :)
Also, maybe you can help with this: I saw a video where a player built a small shed type place, and went inside. He was on single player. Ok. Now, When we (wife and I) created the same little shed, the door wouldn't open. We could hit the 'C' button and after a while the 'Z' button, but not enter it. Will this apply to all buildings?
As for the shelters, no, that won't happen everytime. usually that happens when something is obstructing the door; such as terrain, another structure, another entity, or set piece clutter.
edit: Another crafting related thing the game doesnt exactly tell you...you have hot keys! If you combine the item you want to hotkey, with your backpack, on the crafting mat it will give you the ability to assign that item to slot 1-4.
Actually, last round we did. Over, and over and over. :) Everytime we tried to run back to our bags at camp. They were there....surrounding us....IT WAS TERRIBLE! They killed us over and over. Had to start a new game. Never lasted more than 3 days. LOL
Far cry from 7d. :)
Indeed you can upgrade your spear. The upgraded spear is your weak spear + 3 bone + 2 cloth if i recall right (rarely remember the cloth requirements exactly because i just hoard it so its never a problem). There is an upgrade for the crafted bow, but it is not craftable. that one must be found. There are also upgrades to the axe, in fact a few axes are available. The easiest for the player is obviously the default plane axe, followed by the crafted axe, but there are other options that can be found as well that can make chopping trees much faster to. On a plus, unlike 7d2d, your ability to find the loot you need is not based on RNG. The map is always the same, so once you do find stuff you can always find it again later (assuming you have a good memory lol). bonus points, and a slight hint: most the good stuff is found in caves, and caves respawn their loot each time you enter them, but almost none of the caves respawn their enemies (there are some exceptions though).
I love the happybrithday trap, you can use it to kill mutants, each time only need a stick to fix it.With 4 or 5 ,you can kill a band of mutants without hurt yourself.
the rabbit trap can not only catch rabbits, but also lizards, that is really annoying because lizards will escape whether it is in a trap or not,and it will make the trap invalid.ATTENTION!you need to put your traps in the place where rabbits often appear,or you will get nothing .
if you are hungry, why not try to eat blueberries or catch some fish with your spear? And the rabbit trap can be build under water ,it will catch fish very fast in a pond.
By the way,if you are a good archer, hunt deer is a very good choice, because the skin is necessary to make stuffs, and it will give you four pieces of meat each time you kill one.
**** i knew it was an error to spend cash on this ♥♥♥♥
