How to get fps boost on low end pc
I have a fairly old laptop with low end specs, played the game with low fps, it is around 15-18-30 fps. While that is also a concern, but not the main concern. It is the temperature.

The CPU temperature is starting from 60 on main menu, and then 70ish on early play, but as time goes it gets to 80ish, max 85. My friends assure me this is normal as long as it hasn't reach 100, but i get worried this might harm my only laptop.

So is there a way to make it less heavy on the laptop like turning off the shadows or anything? What i already did is end tasks of most unneeded app in gaming when playing The Forest, and of course setting the graphics on ultra low and even quarter texture resolutions.

my specs:
i3-5005u 2.0Ghz
Nvidia Geforce 920m 2GB
RAM 6GB
HDD Seagatte 500GB

85 isnt anything to worry about, i doubt it even properly throttles til you get to the mid 90's

try raising your laptop up with something, a few cd cases or something so the fans underneath can breath properly. other than that, i salute you for being able to play at 15fps

well i did that since yesterday, using block of wood, and yes lower the temp to 72 celcius at night, due to the low room temp, 19 celcius.

well the lag in the forest is somehow bearable than most other games which tends to slowmo when it started to experience drop fps. Thankfully i get better fps when i plays alone.

Dying Light 2, No More Room in Hell 2, Mount and Blade Bannerlord.
Every sequels always had an improve in graphics, you're right i should get a better rig, probably will build a PC instead of Laptops, to avoid any temperature spikes.

Finally able to play on 30-50 fps, all i did was:
>set the laptop display resolution to 1024*800
>set the game resolution to 800*600
>obviously set everything to the most lowest possible
>turn from dx11 to legacy
>install no shadow mod using modapi

haven't try it yet on multiplayer, but i'm satisfied with this result, right the temp went down to 78 celcius at day and 70 celcius at night, lifting the back of the laptop using woods so there's a little room for ventilation at the bottom of the laptop.

no shadow mod i uses: https://modapi.survivetheforest.net/mod/113/no-shadows
the mod is working as per day this comment was posted.

If it's an old laptop give the cooling a good cleaning and (let someone) replace the thermal paste.
It's very likely dried out now and so does the exact opposite of what it's supposed to do.
This should provide a bit more of fresh air and also reduce the risk of thermal throddling.

Also, there are colling pads for laptops that blow some additional air in your system...
They're pretty golden.
If this doesn't work, you should lower render intensive effects like AA, shadows or post processing effects, maybe lower the resolution as well.

since i knew i had an old laptop, obviously before starting the game i would come to settings first to lower all the graphics settings to the lowest.

and yes probably i should check if the thermal paste is dried out or not, it's been 8 months since the last time i replace it.

i already found of way to minimize the lags and lowering the temp, i mentioned it on my replies.
