I have a couple questions then
1. How durable are the defensive walls?
2. How do defensive spikes work? As in, are cannibals smart enough to not run at them, or do the spikes kill/damage them for trying?
3. Do you have any tips I could use for cannibal-proofing my home?
This way (surrounding your rock walls with happy b traps) cannibals can not reach your walls and climb up. Is also good deterrent for most mutants.
At least that's my experience.
Not true. Cannibals are not a 'stock' the island keeps. Take it from somebody who makes it thier goal to get as many cannibal attacks as possible. I've gone through thousands in my games with ease and never run out.
The only way to stop cannibals permanently is to use veganmode. You can reduce thier spawns depending on where you build and sleeping every night at dusk. Lighting fires will almost always cause cannibals to appear so best bet there is to make a bonfire and keep it constantly burning.
In regards to the totems, the cannibals will spawn to patrol and sometimes will pray at them. They will plant them outside your base eventually but you can easily destroy them for good. There are a number of spots across the map though where they spawn by default and will respawn constantly. If you wish to avoid cannibals then best build away from those ones.
I honestly expected cannibals to eventually come to attack my base, I just didn't expect a constant stream.
Should I just follow the coast up until I find a better place?
