Btw. I think the bone arrows are heavier and doesn't go as far as the other arrows.
Long distance/caves - fire arrows (high damage body shots and provides good light).
Mutants in normal - fire arrows.
Mutants in hard - maintaining poison on them while fighting melee w/ upgraded spear.
Low tier cannibals - normal arrows.
High tier cannibals - bone arrows.
Each arrow has it's strategic use, which is the way it should be.
If I see a mutant get aggressive and start to run, I shoot a poison arrow into them to make them slow and easier to dodge. Combining poison arrows and melee is good too because they attack slower and do less damage so you can dance around them while chopping them up with an axe or something.
I use bone arrows mainly for hunting animals and against mutants. Keeping your distance from mutants saves you armor because one strike from them will destroy a lot of it so I pepper them with bone arrows. I don't often use bone arrows on cannibals because if they decide to retreat, they might run away with a bunch of my arrows.
Fire arrows and fire in general make mutants go ballistic, they'll run all around and try to hit you. Makes them harder to fight and they are also more resistant to fire on hard so I rarely use fire. Fire is okay on cannibals since it immobilizes them. Then I just beat them up while they're flailing around.
I will use a poison arrow on Virginias, shoot one then switch to melee. Maybe need 1 more before she dies. Drastically reduces their speed. They seem to effect the Virginia's the most. (possibly AI bugs)
There was a time fire didn't seem to stick with mutants for more than a second or two, but that no longer seems to be the case.
I've tried out both bows and despite the crafted bow being nerfed it seems to handle mostly the same. Maybe the arrow drops a bit sooner in its arc. I guess I'll have to play with it some more.
Look down.
