Question about general gameplay for beginner here
Just wondering how to go about approaching this game...like I've got a treehouse built and have just started exploring a bit, but the farther out I get from my base, the more it seems like I need to build another one.
So that's my question I guess...should I have multiple outposts on this game? Is it pretty necessary or is it normal to have to continually run back to your base at the end of every expedition?

Also...and this is kind of hard to put into words, but what should I be doing, really...be focusing on base building to the point where I have a fence up around everything (defenses) or can I get by with a treehouse and start in on getting familiar with the surroundings here?

Kind of goody questions, I know, just have had this in my library forever and am thinking about finally just buttoning down and tackling it.

Well. As far as multiple bases. I myself ALWAYS have multiple bases. and a few outposts. I have to assume most people are like me, BUT if base building is not ur thing, Your still gonna want to have some outposts outside of your main base. Another prob. If your a new player, you may not quite know what is a good location. It just something you pick up. (animals/ponds, native patrols, cave openings, etc) are all things that may factor.

If you are creative and DO like to build bases. You can have a lot of fun, settings traps, making fighting arenas. the sky is the limit. As far as what you should be doing, I would mix it up. Build, explore, craft. The story line can take a very very long time if you let it, or you could do the bare min and finish the game in 16-20 hours. No fun in that. It is fairly open world in the direction you go. Eventually from exploring you will find enough clues, gather enough items and finish the game. Take your time and have fun with it.

I also build at multiple sites. I think two main ways of playing this game are to either progress the story or to base build. Personally I do story progression at first meaning I spend a lot of time in caves and not much time at my base. This lets me get better weapons prior to the enemies around the island getting stronger. But either style is appropriate depending on what you prefer.

Just speaking for my play style, I setup five Hunting Shelters for save points around the map. I don't normally use them for sleeping in. While traveling at night is a bit spookier, the cannibals can sometimes be even more visible at night since the leader often has a light source with them. Plus your own stealth is increased at night so they don't notice you as easily.

I think the best tip I can offer is to learn where the Fertile Lands are located. There are videos on YouTube that will assist with this. It is a super peaceful area to start out and has the resources needed to allow you to make some early progression such as crafting a berry and water pouch from the rabbits and deer in the area. Hardly any cannibals will ever come there so no need to build base protection. I always start out there unless I want to challenge myself. It is also somewhat centrally located so the base you establish there can be used throughout the game. The main cannibal base is nearby allowing you to grab the map, compass, and modern axe when you're ready.
