How do I make a spear?

Some people way that you cannot make a spear and have to find them near ponds. Other people say that you make a spear by combining two small sticks together in the inventory. I tried that and nothing happens.

Lizards keep getting caught in my basic trap and I can't open the trap to get at them without the lizard running away.

If you can't make a spear, you have to kill the lizards with arrows while they are inside the trap cage.

There are two types of spears in the game, both are craftable. The weak spear is literally just two sticks like you said. If you are trying to combine two sticks and don't get the option to make the spear that means you already have it in your inventory. It shows up near the bottom center of your inventory screen and looks like a really thin but long stick.
