The way it normally works is like temporary hit points. Incoming damage from attacks takes from the health pool of the armor before it takes from your own health, but some forms of damage can still harm you in a more direct manner. Bone armor would be the second best available in the game for it's intended purpose. Just mind your fires and you'll be fine.
this is how armor work in this game, and it does protect you from fire you simply have to wear more than 1 piece depending on the difficulty, so, in game you have no logic and dont want to be mentionned about real life, interesting. welcome kunning kruger effect, do you also belive the earth is flat.
If we want to discuss the logic of something "forged" in fire having a resistant to said fire, then we sort of have to discuss logical functions of reality, or realism, to discuss the topic properly. Video games can work however they want, sure, but if the game mechanics are based on real logic then it's real logic we need to discuss. Logically, if you just tie random bones to your squishy bits then yes, those bones may be decent at stopping a swing from an external enemy, but there's also no reason the wearer of such armor would actually have any resistance to fire. You drop that person in a fire pit and the bones they were wearing, along with their own bones, should be the only thing left by the games logic. The bones are fire resistance, your flesh is not, and the bones do not fully cover or encase your flesh in order to offer proper protection against fire specifically.
Although I will also point out there is one thing that works both in game and by irl logic that also applies to catching yourself on fire. Generally if your rear end is burning, jumping in water is helpful.
