QUESTION: Continue playing after ending the game? [SPOILERS]

I've ended my first playthrough and chose the ending where you leave the island. My save files are all from before I faced the end boss and I would have to backtrack a lot to get out + it would annoy me to constantly have the unfinished task there. Is there no way for me to get back on the island and continue in my game after the end? I still had some achievments to complete and I wanted to do some more base building.

Have you gone in and tried to reload the save? If it didn't let you, then no. You cannot. This game has mega replay value. Just start fresh and do all the other stuff before beating the game.
I've replayed this game 100s of times, beaten it 4x and I still come back for more.

There were no saves after the end - only from before. I know it has replay value, but I'd like to continue this save for now seeing as I only have a few more things to complete for my achievments and then I will start a fresh playthrough after I've had a bit of a break.

choose the emergency shutdown instead of crashing the plane option at the end, you will come back on the island with a few new blueprints and the acces to the artifact.

Yeah, I suspected that was the case after I chose the ending, but seeing as this was my first playthrough I did not really know when or what would end the game (or how). I'll leave the game unfinished and see if I want to come back for the achievments later. Thanks for answering my questions, both of you! :)

Just play through again, I know I know... Not your point at all. I just know my second play through I did almost everything differently, from where I based to how I went through caves., It added many more hours to the game and I even found a few things I did not get to in first run.

Everytime you do something big, Like build a nice base. You should back up your save. JIC something happens. But in your case, it could be used to go back without restarting fully. Yeah yeah Hindsight 20/20 and all that.

I had the same thing happen, but after a few days of ignoring the ending, I decided to go back and finish it.

Totally worth it, just for the post-game stuff.
