afaik, they are only active at night.
You can find them pretty easy at night in the snow area but i hunted them also at little ponds near the sinkhole (at night too, of course)

Any chance you could post a screenshot of the map and where?

i dont really use the compass, but if the cold area is the north, ive seen alot in the north-west of the snowarea at night.
Just try. Enemies are easy to spot and to fight in the snow area, so dont worry

I've gone to the snow area at night and have yet to find/see any raccoons..Is there a specific spot that they spawn?

i found them in the snow area too. near the lake far up north. three of them spawned in the night right before me.

There are millions of them 24/7 near our current base, which is on the east coast of the map, on the cliffy area about halfway up. (Halfway up the east coast I mean :- head straight east from the cockpit's old location, basically).

They are hardy buggers and take 2 hits with a Katana to kill.

they are nocturnal so they spawn at night, though ones that have already spawned can still be found during the day. they spawn in several areas around the map, usually in areas where the trees are slightly sparse, like where grasslands meet the edges of forests. an easy to find area that they spawn pretty often is near the yatcht, i find its easy to spot them over by the blue tent on the beach in that section full of berry bushes. they are dark grey and appear at night though so actually seeing them at night can be difficult, but it's fairly easy to at least hear them so you can quickly search the area for it running away on its stubby little legs. They CAN climb trees to get away but I haven't actually seen them do this like, hardly at all. The small animal traps can actually catch them as well which can help a bit but they seem to be pretty good at avoiding them, at least when startled.

3 real day searching for me none yet, looks in spots people say day,night none yet guess there rarer on some games than others.

over stocked on all other hides on racks but not one ♥♥♥♥ yet.

there is an interactive map of the forest where players come together to mark basically anything of interest, including animal spawn points. It can make some things a bit too easy for some people but if you REALLY want to find those raccoons it might be helpful. the site is https://theforestmap.com/ (not sure if steam filters sites in forums like it does chats if so, just google theforestmap)

Well it just became more important now as there is a racoon-specific skin that people (including me) have been searching our butts of for and haven't found them.

See my post above. I sat in our shooting gallery (roof of our base) yesterday and literally watched half a dozen of them amble past. They are absolutely not nocturnal.

Go to the map linked above. Find bottom edge of the sink hole and trace a line directly east to till you hit the coast/sea. See that small fishing pool near the cliffs about an inch to the left of the sea? Our base is right there and there are animals constantly all round us, including Raccoons. Tons of them. It's like being in a Disney movie.
