The continous enemy attacks from start when you dont even have a proper weapon are the worst gamedesign i've seen in 30 years , I remember a game on C64 called Burntime which had equal bad designed and balanced enemies.
On level "normal" one should be able to play thru without frustration , who wants it hardcore should be able to select it.I dont thing that someone can "win" this game in its hardest mode without cheat, maybe not even in normal mode its possible.
I cant understand why this game has so many positive reviews, well probably its because its theme is somewhat "special" at least I paid "only" 8 € for the PS4 version.
Edit: On top it does not even have automatic VOIP in Multiplayer mode in 2020 .

Survival games like this require you to collect or craft items in order to live comfortably. The games is very easy once you learn what to do. I suggest you just run away from enemies at first.

They shouldn't be coming to your base that often, unless you built on their patrol path. If you build in the fertile lands, you may never see them.

My main issue with the game is that enemies such as the cannibals seem to be damage sponges, even on normal difficulty.

Other than that, I think there are some locations in the game where the enemies hardly, if ever, go. And it'd be best to build there for a base.

If the fighting aspect is giving you trouble, there is a peaceful mode you can play on. The game is entirely possible to beat legit, even on hard survival. In fact, there is a very simple technique that works in 90% of fights...strafe and stab. Even if you just recently died so all you have to your name is the first rock you managed to grab, if you just sidestep the enemies attacks you are free to bash in his skull with that rock while he finishes his attack animation.

I can see why some players do have a negative experience their first time or two when they don't know what to expect or do. Especially since a lot of the places on the map that look like they'd be great to put a base on, are actually really bad to base at unless you want to fight a lot. Like for example, that big pretty tree at the top of the hill near the sailboat, that's a new player trap when it comes to basing.

I just build very close to the crashsite to have the suitcases to farm for the start, after I have the Leanto and a fire attacks start with 2-3 enemies every 20 realtime minutes or so, this is pure stress, i want to play , not stress , I regret i bought it , on the other hand I'm happy i waited for a sale so i didnt lose too much money +I know now that i better dont buy that second game that is in the makes from that developer.
I love survival games , but this is wierd and no good expirience , as already mentioned "normal" mode should be easy playthru by a total noob

Try setting your base somewhere else. You could make the yacht a temporary base.

It''s abit of a tough game when you play alone to be honest. Find someone to play with in co-op it will make the game play abit easier for you and more enjoyable.
This game is actually the best survival game out there in my opinion ....the crafting,building is by far the better than any others.
If you're building near the cannis patrol routes then you will get bothered all the time.
Build on the fertile lands or as suggested by the yacht, not near the plane.
Feel free to add me if you wanna try it again. It's actually a brilliant game once you get into it.

Basing near the plane is actually a bad idea. For the first ~5 minutes nothing will show up so you can gather the plane loot and bug out, but after that grace period there is always a group of skinnies that comes to investigate the crash. If you are basing there, it's the fastest way to have them discover your base.

You've made it very clear that it was an unpleasant experience you don't wish to repeat, but you also don't mention refunding it so if you ever do decide to give it another try since you already bought it, you may want to try playing co-op with friends or finding a group to play with. The learning curve can be hard for some, but playing with others makes it a lot easier and allows you a chance to explore the mechanics so you can improve enough to not find it as frustrating. Heck, if you wanted you could add me and I could help out, I normally do exactly that on public servers anyway. I will mention I am moving in a week though, so I won't be available to play for at least a few weeks while dealing with that.

I already tried multiplayer with others which was the same disaster, I joined someone who obviously had build a huge base under continous attack, if you read my whole post you see I mention there is no VOIP on Multiplayer on Playstation in this game.
Anyway, I am out of this unfortunally a refund isnt possible after 2 hours playing on PS4 but nevermind, i have my lesson learned. Its just bad game design at least for ME but i must be a very special person when nearly 2ook people find this game so good and I'm not

That's fine. I just know the frustration of ending up stuck with a game you don't enjoy playing, but I do believe it is possible that you may come to enjoy it once you have a better grasp of the game. It's perfectly fine if you have no desire to try to learn to love it, especially if you already have other games you know you do enjoy and could play instead.

This game is unique in a few ways, which can be both good and bad. It's good because it is something new and unique for survival games, but that also means that it isn't as intuitive since it doesn't stick to the mechanics many survival game players are already used to. I will admit that the difficulty can be a bit unbalanced for the same reason. When you are new and don't know what to do, it can be very unforgiving during the time that most would expect it to be a bit easier so a new player can adapt. Inversely, once you do know what you are doing, it can end up too easy (even on the hardest settings) because you already know how to work the system.

Step one, build a bow; 1 long stick, 1(2?) Rope, 2 cloth
Step two, build arrow; 1 stick, feathers
Step three, profit

Headshots are one shot kills and it will make it easier for you to enjoy the game. The cannibals wont get annoying/overwhelming until day 20/30, then its best to move daily, by that time I usually have 3 camps set up. There is also a lake with a rock in the center you can build on a little inland off the shore where the yacht is located. I dont remember if the plane is a static location or not but sometimes the game will start you right next to that lake too and make life easy. Look up a map of the island and build your base their if you are trying to not fight anything at all at first.
