Green Hell looks very very similar.

If you love survival games may I suggest subnautica well worth the money. Not sure on green hell but it looks good

Yeah i can highly recommend Subnautica too. Beautiful underwater environment and scary monsters, but the rest is peaceful and you can build a massive base if you want to. Green hell, im not entirely impressed with "yet" as its still Early Access. You are stuck into a start story to begin with, unlike The Forest and Subnautica. They are both straight off Open World exploration and nothing to immediately tell you what to do. Subnautica are also releasing a new early access, Below Zero, which is along the same story as the original, but it now also has a start story like GH, but at least its quicker. Now you are a woman and there is a completely new beautiful underwater environment, nothing like the previous game.

I didn't like Subnautica at all, and do not feel it is like The Forest.

Hm, it really depends what you are comparing? I was more going down the general Survival genre. I dont think there is another game like The Forest, except Green Hell, which personally i dont like "yet" as i said. Maybe in the future with updates, etc, idk. Below is the Steam comparisons for The Forest, but even those arent really the same feel or look at all.

I'd like something with 'base' building that has things looking to kill you. The Forest is what im looking for; however, building is clunky and incomplete.

There aren't many games I can think of that feel quite the same as The Forest. I don't have it but I do hear several people describe Green Hell as a more survival intensive Forest but I can't speak on their building. Subnautica can be surprisingly tense for how cartoonish and vibrant it appears, but admittedly surviving the enemies isn't actually much of a challenge once you understand those critters well enough (and one of the gimmicks is that you don't really have traditional weapons except a survival knife so you are greatly encouraged to avoid rather than defend). Though if building is more of the focus, you might want to look into the sequel, Below Zero. It's still early access so buggy as hell, incomplete (and changing) story, and the threats of the world aren't fully filled in yet but so far it's building is actually a bit more expansive than the original.

The other one that comes to mind is Ark: survival evolved. In a lot of ways it's actually nothing like the forest admittedly, but if building and survival tension are your main interests it could be suitable, especially if you find a unofficial server that uses s+ (it's a building mod that expands and smoothes the existing building in game). On pve, the tension largely comes from the ~100 species of dinos all over the map that generally want to eat your liver for dinner, but one of the main points of the game is that said dinos are also usually tamable to be used to help you in survival. The building there can also be somewhat clunky, especially vanilla, but you have a lot more options available as well. Pvp is even harder in the survival aspect though, the pvp community there can be downright infuriatingly brutal, especially as you are first starting.

Well The Forest is my 2nd favourite survival game, so I will recommend my favourite; 7 Days to Die. It has everything I want in such a game, such as:

1) The constant need to go out into a hostile world and collect resources.
2) Base building: you can build way bigger than you can in the Forest and there is much more tech and base defences to use
3) A hostile enemy that will actively attack you and your base, forcing you into an arms race that always drives you forward and increases the tension

I understand your taste. realistic survival type but sadly there ain't many and most already suggest here

Green Hell: it is unfinish, I like it and feel like it lacking stuff in same time and developer are rushing to push out of early access and I worry about that

The Long Dark: No base building, Looting game, Too realistic that make it not fun for me

Zombie games for those who interest in zeds

7 Days To Die: There too much to do but when I doing thing there I feel dull doing it because too much grind I guess also my computer not very strong so it lagging alot

Mist Survival: The name is very basic but it look promising, last time I play was quite fun but again. it not finish yet and surprising the developer is from Asia and seem to be solo developer (used to) but most importantly. there is bandit in the game and you can stealth kill them and giving you Far Cry vein...just why not many survival game having friendly npc like this game?

No worries. As long as no one suggest that garbage DayZ to me. I may become triggered lol.

I not sure you will be ok to game like Empyrion Galactic Survival or not but I going to suggest it anyway.

It giving you No Man Sky vein but seem to be more enjoyable. The animation of creature there is uhh not right but there at least you no alone in planet you just crash on. There is alien faction, some are non friendly and will sending drone to raid your base if you finally understand the game and decide to build base for getting your ready for traveling through space like No Man Sky.

They also can be trade or you can buy there drone base there and you can like remote control drone for mining

The game focus on getting resource and stuff but there like need of O2 if u decide to start on desert planet with liitle of O2 but not enough for you. food main is meat. there like alien animal anywhere and u can like kill em with beginner gun to get meat

These kind of game will giving you like you playing casual game, not trying hard to survival game

like Ark I guess

There also game like Kenshi which is still on top playing list on steam with about 4000 players. It kind of like waste land trying hard to survive but if you like me who like playing only for few hours and understand the game concept and it design like away. you will be survive just fine with your exploit on that game, which lead to next big thing on that game is wipe out every crap annoying bandit that can kill you faster than Japanese RPG game or start to wipe out nation because they dang annoying you.

there is like basic food need but it like I said. wasteland. first you start as labor dude gather ore outside the town to get money for food. if lucky there will be bunch of bandit trying to beat the crap out u cuz reason of their existed. you are no super heroes. you are normal dude. you learn thing like normal dude while other already like Skyrim guard level

Love this discussion.

I love the survival/base building genre and have played them all. Green Hell is amazing from a survival standpoint BUT it is very incomplete right now(full story coming soon) and base building is there but very limited...as i guess it should be considering the setting.

Heat has a ton of potential but the development is horribly slow and I question how long it will even continue to be worked on.

I love The Forest but the base building to me is way behind the times.

Empryion is pretty amazing but Sci-fi.

7 Days is great too but graphics are dated and there is really no purpose.

The struggle with Survival games is there needs to be a purpose/danger. That is what I do like about the Forest. You can build, farm, relax, but oh by the way your damn kid has been abducted by cannibal mutants!

RequiemsRose Aug 22, 2019 @ 5:42pm
7 days to die can be a good one, but it does seem to be forever early access and like CUFreeze mentioned, there doesn't seem to be a purpose. You just sort of wake up in a post-apocalypse and try to avoid dying to zombies. Although, unlike a lot of the others mentioned, there is more freedom when it comes to building. It does have a pretty wide variety of things to build, and you can modify terrain, make yourself a bunker underground if you want (it's actually somewhat encouraged). The building itself kind of reminds me of minecraft, as in a lot of it is block by block instead of pre-established build pieces like foundation, wall, etc...although support and weight distribution do matter in 7 days to die. Unlike minecraft, you can't have a floating mansion, it will crumble down around you instead.
