Ultimate Base
Hi,

First time poster here.

Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times but I am having a bit of trouble in deciding where ot build my next base.

I have been playing The Forest for quite some time now so am quite aware of how it plays but I am at the point where I would like to build a new base and for this base to be my main one and I am prepared to sink in the hours to do so.

However I can't figure out where so any help would be appreciated. I know a lot of people suggest the giant tree next to the beach but that is too far away from trees and resources so would take forever.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

It also depends on if you want constant action or not. I like to build at one of the bigger lakes on the west side of the map, either geese lake or the other one with the 3 hut cannibal camp next to it. but if you're building there, you're literally asking for trouble. Lol 😂 same goes for the most beaches, lovely places but much traffic.

For base locations, I think I personally like either Geese Lake for the action (as per Andi) or what Farket's called 'the Fertile Lands.' They're in the upper portion of the South-East if the map were quartered. But either way, I'd recommend you get the modern axe for speed in chopping down trees (along with explosives) and a house boat that's dedicated to freighting them, initially. If you put large log holders on the house boat and use (possibly abuse?) the system you can stack 13 Large Log Holders on 13 Large Log Holders on the top of the boat, allowing for 312 logs. If you want to keep it honest, you can do 7 log holders on top of 7 large log holders allowing for 168 Logs. This allows for you to deforest one area of the map without dedicating yourself that location.

If you build at Geese Lake, which has less of a need for any sort of ramp or crane system, just keep in mind that you can and should build deadfall traps near your defensive walls, along with the "happy birthday!" traps, etc.

My personal recommendation on videos is Farket, but I've become a serious fan. There are a number of other YouTube channels dedicated to this, I think phoenix_death has named most of them in a recent post somewhere.

If you want the need to only defend one wall and have no enemies coming from behind, the sacred tree by the yacht is your ideal spot.

True, but I referenced Farket and others because I feel they provide a lot of good info that may not fit well into anything but an essay long post (which most might have the automatic response to of 'Too Long, Didn't Read')

Well, yeah, but I guess I feel that when anyone asks for the location of the Ultimate Base, it's a fair point that it depends on what you want from your ultimate base. Complete safety? One of the islands. Constant combat and action? The areas near to the landbridge. Good mix of resources? Geese Lake and the Fertile Lands both qualify for that. There's just a lot of variables. OP did mentiont that they felt the large tree near the beach was out (due to distance to trees (or other resources?) and I think that's the same one that Shiina Black referenced. I don't disagree with offering it up as a rethink, though, just because there's so many ways to make freighting logs from one location to another viable.

OH, also, phoenix_death12: I don't know if you'd be alright with sharing, but I'm a little curious on why you avoid Farket? This may be a question better asked via a different format, but I just realized steam doesn't have a good option for PM's that aren't between friends. (Apologies to OP, I'll delete as needed)
Note: Keep in mind I've been playing the Forest and watching Farket for basically the same amount of time, less than 2 months, so my knowledge of the person is limited to what pertains directly to the game.

I personally like the small cliff inland with a small fish pond and 3-4 suitcases in front of it thats not to far from the yacht. Its surrounded by alot of good spots as welll and provides cover on one full side. Also if can use elevator or rope on platform to get out of sticky situations.
Surrounding areas- yacht, big circle clearing with cave entrance in woods, pond with 2 rocks (3 huts), the container beach, the small camp site with cooking pot+herb spawns etc. The cliff also has its own herb spawn, tons of rabbits and lizards roam the area as well as a few deer. Personally this is the absolute best spot on the entire map.

Pretty much center of all good locations, anything far east is a bit of travel.

I suggest you build on the bottom, possibly make a base big enough to cover the whole area having yourself an inside fish pond. This way you can cut the trees from the top and toss them right down inside your frame. Place is surrounded with more trees then you need.
