Does this game even have fall damage?

I managed to do this 3 times, and no, I was not in creative. I know the game has fall damage, I've died from small drops. I just found it funny how I could jump down the sinkhole with an almost 80% chance of surviving.

I slid down some of the sides. I've managed to negate fall damage many times now by doing that

Not continous sliding, just on and off while I'm falling. Sometimes I probably should've died though. I'll continue to experiment with this

Sliding down slopes usually negates any fall damage I should've taken, even though the slope is almost 80 degrees. I think what makes me succeed the sinkhole jump is that there is a tiny slope at the bottom negating the fall damage for me.
