Is the machete a good weapon ?

As always, the title of "best" is a subjective one. I don't use melee weapons, so to me, no. But to try and give the weapon an honest shake...

Its ~absolutely worse~ than the katana for combat, I can tell you that.

The machete has the exact same stats as the katana, excepit it is upgradeable. It attacks fast, but does small amounts of damage and consumes a large amount of stamina per swing for such a small amount of damage. The real problem of the machete that makes it completely inferior to the katana is its pitiful range. The katana's fast speed can stunlock a sigle cannibal, but almost every time I've used the machete, the cannibal has managed to dodge it and break the stunlock. While you can block with it, you still take damage because it has no block stat. Not that noticeable if you're wearing armor, but eventually it will add up. And if you're not wearing armor, its very evident how much damage you still take while blocking. On top of that, I agree with Farket; using the katana/machete cripples you because you get used to such a fast attack speed. You switch to a different weapon, you have no idea how to deal with decrease in speed.

As for upgrading the machete, stick with teeth and glass. If you use feathers, use a minimal amount. The machete has such a fast speed that only a few feathers will hit the game's max attack speed and any feathers added after that will just simply decrease the damage without adding any actual speed.

If you want a positive note for the macherte, the one thing that's different from the katana is that it cuts down stick trees in one hit. Thus, its the fastest stick tree cutting tool out there, though you won't get many leaves that way.

maaan, It would be fun to kill cannibals with a machete, but it isnt that effective.
Why do you get it so late in the game ? Moderne axe and Machete should change places.

more like swap katana with machete, both are weapons while axe is... axe ;D

I love it! And it's quite easy to get your hands on early game. Just don't fight /kill everything you see on your way out of the caves. Just dodge and run with a few sodas and energy mix. 😊
