if you have patience to visit coop subforum and get people to play then yes
if you want public multiplayer then huge no
there are also troll hosters who make their game public just to ban anyone who join their game (There are also people who forgot to put private, but they are minority, trollers are majority in case of such banning)
If you hop into the first peer to peer server with an interesting name, it's a gamble. Some are very nice and helpful, have no issues showing you neat places to go or passing along tips about how to not die. Others...not so much. There is also a problem with modding/cheating. There are some very interesting mods that can enhance your game but there are also mods specifically designed to be a troll's toolkit and that can become a problem for the public peer to peer options. If you do choose these servers, I wouldn't advise getting incredibly invested in them as they tend to be short lived compared to the other server options.
