1: Dev team is small and they are working on the Sons of the forest
2: More time/resources to import a female playermodel. This includes animations, noises, armor/clothing/tool clipping issues
3: This game is 6 years old and I doubt the devs would even bother touching it aside from bug fixes
4: unnecessary and serves no point as you play the game only in first person
I'm pretty hopeful since there was a Sep 2019 update that added a bunch of stuff. plus it seems they are already working on the models from the image I found/provided above. ^^,
its never too late to improve a great game! :D
I personally have broken down the game into its scenes and cannot find the "Female model". Does that mean it doesnt exist? No, maybe just that i couldnt find it amongst the thousands of files, textures and models in there. Nothing in the sound files either, other than the actual mutant females. This topic has been strangely controversial from the start. You probably found a couple of locked threads about this on your searches lol. Most players either trolled or assumed it needed story changes being forced for SJW reasons. Very few had legitimate reasons other than fear of lore/story changes essentially. So why it didnt get added IF it was there, we all dont know why, except the devs. Tbh my sense is that it was not added because they took on so much stuff to do and changes all the time, that shoving in a character change as well, that wasnt planned, neither was multiplayer / coop. It would just introduce too many extra changes (sound, models, coding, etc) just for 1 model. If they had planned it from the start, i can imagine it would have been added, BUT they were making the game for single player originally. So whats the fastest thing to do? Shove in the original model, same sounds, coding, just random a skin on it for seeing each other in coop. Its too late now to add it though, as i presume all of the devs are working on the new game and no one has any wish to work on the past, except for taking the lore and story ideas across into the new version. If this game had been roles reversed, it personally wouldnt bother me. A choice female/male shouldnt be a reason to not buy a game. Hopefully for you ladies out there its in the next version, but dont let it spoil your time in this version, else you will miss out on a good game.
From those files i went through, i just made this scene for fun lol.
