Chainsaw doesn't kill? Really?
Mind-boggling! So, I finally discover the chainsaw, and I think that I'm gonna finally have the weapon to beat all (it does damage with a forward thrust while running). But noooo. Amazingly, the devs have seen fit to SO nerf this thing that it's literally, completely, totally ABSURD!!!

Two basic canibals accost me. I fire up the chainsaw. This is gonna be good. Finally I can just take them out. Nope! They beat me to death VERY quickly, and with me hitting them both MANY times with the chainsaw. They are covered in blood, but NOT DYING!

So, the devs apparently think that MULTIPLE thrust to the abdomen/chest with a full-on chainsaw is something that even the BASIC canibals are going to walk away from. They don't even retreat! They feel that they are taking so LITTLE damage that, in the famous words, "It's just a flesh wound."

Give me a BREAK! I mean, seriously! The chainsaw, when you can finally get hold of it, should be a ONE-shot KILL to anything less than the big mutants.

This is the first thing in the game that I just can't abide. This is just RIDICULOUS, and I'm SICK of being perpetually so underpowered against these canibals that the whole game consists of slinking around hoping to not get mobbed. The chainsaw SHOULD be a game-changer, and it should at least BARELY resemble the sort of MASSIVE damage it would do to ANY form of flesh!!!

from what i have noticed the chainsaw deals damage based on a rapid axe swing.. if you listen to the tree it sounds like its being hit with an axe very fast,, cannibals will react the same way.. not instakill as it probably should be.. that being said i have no problem taking down large groups of enemies with the chainsaw as it doesnt use stamina only fuel which is plentiful

Actually chainsaw was made for people who build big bases so they don't lose their strength. (cutting that many trees would make you lose whole strength and chainsaw prevents this)
If chainsaw was "game changer" then it would be in some hard location ;d
Right now it takes 5-10min(depends on landing location) after you land with plane to get chainsaw and fuel is easy to get too.

If you want it strong then they could replace it with machete ;D
It is in "hard" location.

No form of "balancing" will satisfy everybody. But for me, a chainsaw (whether it's made "hard to get" or not) should be an insta-kill... that is if ANY anchor in realism is going to exist. The canibals are god-like hard to kill with any of the weapons in the game. Throw a cocktail to set one on fire. Nope, he keeps coming. Multiple cocktails. Nope, he keeps coming. Cocktails and multiple arrows. Nope, he keeps coming.

Look, these are "canibals," not gods. But in-game, they are gods. Fine, but CHAINSAW??? CHAINSAW, and he keeps coming???

Come on. SOME balance is in order.

Use bombs. They 1 hit kill them.
Chainsaw can't kill tree in 1 hit and you want it to kill mutated humans in 1 hit :D?

They should add a very easy difficulty where any top tier weapon can kill cannibals in 1 hit. It would satisfy both noobs and realists. At least until somebody decides to complain that even the plane axe or a rock should realistically be 1 hit kills. May aswell just add a new cheat mode and save time.

1 of default mods in cheatapi says something about "instakill", it could be good main screen code :D

Yea there has been an Insta kill mod out for a long long time
Fodder Sep 30, 2017 @ 4:43pm
I use the one-shot arrow-kill mod, which does kill canibals in one shot and mutants in two. You still have to be situationally-aware and able to aim, but at least you don't have to live in perpetual terror. That's made the game very enjoyable for me.

My overarching point concerned the nerf-level of the chainsaw. Yeah, it does take time to saw down a tree with a chainsaw in real life. But how long does it take to saw down a human, or even a lion, with a chainsaw in real life? Flesh is VERY soft and VERY vulnerable to a chainsaw's teeth. In-game, though, canibal flesh seems as tough as a tree, which bears exactly zero resemblance to reality. My point was about making the chainsaw map onto reality to some sensible extent.

With the mod, though, I'm fine with the game as it is.

The chainsaw damage is just fine the way it is i think. If it was near insta kill then there would be no reason to use any other weapon in the game ever.
I have used it a bit to kill cannibals and from my experience they die pretty damn fast. Tested on normal past day 100 and max strength.

Arrows to the head will one shot nearly all cannibals now without a mod.

I dont even see the point in playing the game with cannibals if you are going to 1 shot every enemy in the game. Least the headshots take some practice.

Don't forget to nerf cannibals so they aren't stronger and faster than humans also remove mutants, anceint obelisks, revive because they aren't realistic D:

btw try to saw humans without armor :D We are pretty strong too

I still think it would be cool if you can use the chainsaw to actually saw the cannibals in half or saw off one of their limbs. Like raise the chainsaw and go through this animation where you see blood flying everywhere and guts on the floor. Just for the shock factor and the game is already pretty brutal and bloody.

I would make the chainsaw jam or use up more fuel when you do this attack though, just to discourage people from using the attack all the time. And also that you are vulnerable while doing so you should mainly use it for fun or to try and scare other cannibals off.

Also if the chainsaw were split into pieces that you need to find and assemble, would make it harder to get.

Chainsaws fine, as mentioned its meant for building bases, and saving stats instead of worrying about chopping min or max trees while trying to get those 300 logs for your base and not losing strength.

Why would you need a chainsaw when fire arrows massacre cannis, even hardmode if you sneak up it only takes two or three max duration fire arrows.
Avanar Oct 1, 2017 @ 2:42pm
Insta kill? Did you ever use a real chain saw?

Beside that one that is laying for i don't know how long in a wet cave wouldn't even start running, you would need oil as well for the motor and the chain

The damage... Go and lend your dad's chainsaw, try to turn it on and slam it on a tree branch, about the size of your arm

The result won't be a branch cut in pieces but your dad being angry because you ruined his chainsaw.

Yes, if you hit a human person this one would suffer severe damage. But the chainsaw is no weapon, it's a tool. Hence you need skill and training to use it.
If you use it as a weapon the bone of your victim will block the chain and let you look pretty stupid.

Bone can be as hard as concrete btw.

The game is awesome and i also like to use the chain saw. But would never complain about it being not realistic enough.

Realism would mean that after you seriously hurtef one cannibal you would be defenseless

Actually, with the chainsaw, you can cut off the cannibals arms, legs, and head. Although, you can't split them in half.

In real life the chainsaw can't cut bones. It will stuck at best while most surely the teeth will be broken. What we see in movies with easily cut off legs and hands is unrealistic. You can put chainsaw in a stomach, probably. But even ribs aren't easy for a chainsaw to breakthrough. I've seen a person who mistakenly did cut off his hand by chainsaw - and it didn't. Chainsaw could not deal with a bone. That's what I've seen with my own eyes. Well that was usual small chainsaw, not some sort of big one for cutting big trees

Medical chainsaws for cutting bones are made of special metals. Sometime these are called directly 'medical steel'

Anyway why bother if you can build a f**king hotel and yacht in this game. It's not all that realistic.

PS. Oh ♥♥♥♥. I just noticed that comment before last is from 2017.
