How to progress the story?

I’ve put about 6 hours in to this game with a group. Tried a few different spawns and mainly spawn around the sink hole area so we’re just building camps near the shore. There’s almost no information on how to progress the story. Our objectives are find Timmy and find passengers. I’d just like a nudge in the general direction of how to start solving these.

Go into the sinkhole with a keycard,a rebreather and a climbing axe. That is all i can say.

The key to success is finding an exploring the CAVES. You´ll have to explore the island to find the entraces to the caves, some are visible, some are hidden (underwater...). Make sure to mark cave entraces with a pole. Inside the caves you will find hints and important things you´ll need later to get to the final cave to solve the puzzle.

Just explore

as Dutch said, your checklist to reach the end is the keycard, rebreather, and climbing axe

No need to explore anything, you just need keycard and rebreather. When you get them go to the bottom of the sinkhole and dive inside the pool there. And just to warn you, you cant go back once you enter final area.
