custom building and light
Just got this game, and was messing around with building. I had heard that light sources inside buildings wont attract enemies, but im a bit worried about custom buildings.

When placing custom floors, they dont seem to snap together, nor to custom walls..

1) Can custom buildings prevent light from attracting enemies?

2) Will walls surround my base prevent light sources attracting enemies, even if the light source is in the open (but somewhere within the walls)?

3) Are roofs necessary to prevent lightsources from attracting enemies?

4) Do I have to clip the floors/walls/roofs into eachother in order for them to prevent light from attracting enemies, or is side by side with no visible gap ok? (otherwise: How much empty space can there be between walls/roofs/floors for light not to attract enemies?)

Ignore Custom Floors, Custom Foundations are what you need. Custom Foundations are best built on a Flat Terrain. If you find the Terrain uneven, You can raise their Height slightly (Like up to your Character's Knees) and build them over it. Over a Custom Foundation, Custom Walls snap automatically. You can use a Custom Floor as a Roof over it, Just need to find the correct angle for it to snap into place.

1) I am not really sure but from my experience, Every time i built light sources near Windows, They do attract Enemies. So if that is your worry, Keep your light on the Opposite corner facing away from the Windows.

2) Rock Walls or Defense Walls can prevent your Light sources from being seen by Enemies, As long as you build it like a little away from you House. From my experience, Standing Fire doesn't seem to attract as much enemies as a Skull Lamp (A Skull Lamp flickers like crazy and is always glowing, Drawing more attention).

3) I don't think it matters but you better get a Roof either way but i understand your frustration if you ask this question because of the amount of Logs it takes to build a Custom Roof. There is a shorter hack to this, You can Build a Custom Floor over your Custom Walls, Which acts as a Roof. This also uses way less logs.

4) I think the Enemies will find you regardless of whether you build Windows or Flawless Edges in your House as Game progresses, Because some light Definitely leeks out of your Door and from the House itself. Also, Enemies are not just attracted by Light and Fire, Also your Cooked Food, Dried Food and Blood on You, I believe (I'm not really sure about the Blood part). They can even sense your Movement. So if you are trying to hide from them, You will need more than just a House placed at an ideal location. You will need Rock walls surrounding your House fenced up with Stick fence and maybe a Gate made of Defensive Walls (Wooden Walls) to enter and Exit (Because you need a way to enter and exit your Perfect Defense).

An ideal way would be to build a Custom House at the very edge of the Cliff drop, Leaning outwards if you can imagine what i mean and surround it with walls on 3 other sides (Like a "U" shape). Since the one side faces Open Cliff and doesn't need defense. This is my preferred way of building Custom Houses on Cliffs. Also, I tend to limit Windows to just 1 or 2 even its a Big House because those Enemies you see sometimes take peek at you from the Windows.. (I know its kinda creepy).

So yea, Goodluck. Also, I was nervous and annoyed trying out Custom Building in a Normal Game when I was new. So I experiment playing Peaceful Mode for a few days. Figured out how Custom Building works, Experimented a little. Be sure to try this if you would like to be more prepared to try Custom House in Normal, You would think its lame but trust me, Nothing prepares you enough for this Game.

Thanks very much for this reply! I'm still very much in the early stages (compared to what I saw in the trailer at least), so Im just hoping the time i spent building my tower in this peaceful stage wont have been a waste as soon as enemies decide to mob me.

Also, I definitely know what you mean with the cliff, and it's a good idea. I decided to just wing it and see how bad it gets without an ideal location or defense, and just built in a flat area next to the plane. If things really do go south, hopefully ill have some faster way of chopping trees by that point so the recovery wont be so daunting.

Thanks again!!
