Crashing on startup every day.
Every night I try to play this with my friends but it always crashes on start-up, I've validated and reinstalled the game. Restarting my PC only works sometimes.

This issue has only started after the release of V1.10

Any advice would be appreciated

Is it giving any crash reports that we (the players) could look at?

Unfortunately not the program comes up as "not responding" and all I can do is end it's process under task manager.

Well try what vamp said (although he says that to every issue i see his reply lol) and if that didnt work, maybe try the 32bit version. To get to that, do the same as u did to verify, which is right click The Forest in your game library, properties, local files and then Browse local files. In that folder, run TheForest32.exe and see if that improves the situation. If it does, then make a shortcut to desktop so it runs that, rather than the default 64bit version.

Tried out the "-force-d3d9" in the launch options and it still crashed on start up. :steamsad:

...did the 32bit version provide the same results?

Yeah sadly, fixed the issue by setting The Forest's Priority to "High" under task manager > details.

I've had this reoccurring issue for over a year now. The only thing I found to fix this issue is reinstalling windows. Then a month later the same issue starts again. I think this has to do with the Unity engine as I was also getting the same problem trying to load up Rust and Subnautica which are all on the unity engine and also using two different launchers(Steam and Epic)

So I am not sure if there is any other updated fixes, if there are please post them...

I think I may have found a solution for some of these cases. I was getting a freeze on the "Endnight" title right at the game start.

It turns out Windows was automatically compressing the game save files which are found in the AppData folder (as Windows vexingly does to save disk space at times). Turning off compression for the game's local folder fixed the problem for me right away when nothing else was working.

Generally you can tell if a folder is compressed by the presence of two blue arrows in the upper right hand corner of the folder icon. The files are in "AppData" which you will need to enable hidden folders to see. These instructions assume your user data is saved on a drive called "C:\\".

The game file directory is at "C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\LocalLow\SKS\" if you right click the folder "SKS", go to "Properties", then click "Advanced" in the "General" tab, and then unselect the box that says "Compress contents to save disk space" this will decompress this folder and if your problem has the same cause as mine, the game will now run normally.

You can turn off compression for all of "LocalLow" or all folders in general but I found that this was not necessary to fix the problem with this game. The "SKS" folder is also where you can find your save files if you ever need to do that. Hope this helps someone!
