the only key cards you get either don';t open it or your locked into the labratory at the end so you can't go back to the boat

You can go back to the boat if you do the alternate ending.

it's a little of mess.
if you do alternative ending you get key to door in the yacht, when you open doors in yacht you get key to big black doors in cave of alternative ending (the one in snowy mountains)
behind black doors is portable artifact that has
3 options 1. decoration 2. attract cannibals 3. banish cannibals
choose one option then plug it into ground so it takes effect

I assume you mean the cave you exit the EMP cannon chamber from, the one that comes out by the front of the airplane?

Yes, that one. The only item they aded in full release is obtained there, and it's pretty useless like the alternative ending itself. There are more than enough enemies without it and there is no reason to even go for the ending if you just want to build and kill. You don't even get the achievement for finishing the game. They could've think of something more creative.

while you don't get the achievement for completing the game there is still the artifact to play with and another locked door i still haven't figured out how to get into it yet. its in the childrens ward. requires a key code to get into it.
