Share p2p backup
Is it possible to share a p2p game backup? For example if I host a party for me and 2 friends and I stop playing for a long time and my friends want to continue this backup.

I bet i will over-explain or make this too complex but bare with me lol. It is possible, but someone a while back suggested they were doing it via a Dedicated server, which i guess is slightly simpler. If u dont know the save system, lets start there. When u play Coop, the host saves the map and clients save their inventory. Therefore u cannot swap directly, as only one contains the map details. So you would have to swap the host file, making them basically you, with ur inventory, not their own anymore. If u were to swap places again, they would now have their old inventory again and you would get their new one if u get me.

So this player didnt like this swapping of inventories, so went with a dedicated server file method. The dedicated server, just saves the map, all clients save their inventories. Meaning swapping the save file is more simple back and forth, BUT setting up a dedicated server isnt always easy, then also depends if the PC is powerful enough to host both the game and server at the same time.

So which method would u consider?

Short version fo what james said:
You can send them save file, the person who will host will receive your inventory (items) instead of his. [the other player will be unaffected]
Hosting dedicated server instead in-game host option allow to send save file to other players without swapping inventory.

Just in case, saves location:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest\*your steam ID*\MultiPlayer\
"cs" folder are client saves, your inventory on other people's servers. (if you didn't play on someone's server then you might not have this)

Thank you for your explanations !
Finally a friend has acquired a dedicated server. Now we try to use the backup of my p2p game on the dedicated server. Is it possible ? And if yes, how ?

Oh transfer it to ur host.... do u have FTP access? In short explanation, FTP access would allow u to exchange files back and forth to the server. Most servers seem to only include server settings, not file transfers. So u would have to find out what ur friend has access to as Admin.

If not, worst case scenario, u could cheat it all back into place. Then play legit again after u have ur things back OR just get on with a new game again. Up to you how u play out that issue.

I can tell you location of singleplayer and multiplayer saves (client + hosted by in game option "host"). I didn't use dedicated so no idea where it hides saves.
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest\*Your steam ID*\
The client saves are in:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest\*Your steam ID*\MultiPlayer\cs\
Their named are guids of servers you have connected to.

steam cloud version (doesn't include client saves)
*steam location*\Steam\userdata\*your steam ID3*\242760\remote\
