So this player didnt like this swapping of inventories, so went with a dedicated server file method. The dedicated server, just saves the map, all clients save their inventories. Meaning swapping the save file is more simple back and forth, BUT setting up a dedicated server isnt always easy, then also depends if the PC is powerful enough to host both the game and server at the same time.
So which method would u consider?
You can send them save file, the person who will host will receive your inventory (items) instead of his. [the other player will be unaffected]
Hosting dedicated server instead in-game host option allow to send save file to other players without swapping inventory.
Just in case, saves location:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest\*your steam ID*\MultiPlayer\
"cs" folder are client saves, your inventory on other people's servers. (if you didn't play on someone's server then you might not have this)
Finally a friend has acquired a dedicated server. Now we try to use the backup of my p2p game on the dedicated server. Is it possible ? And if yes, how ?
If not, worst case scenario, u could cheat it all back into place. Then play legit again after u have ur things back OR just get on with a new game again. Up to you how u play out that issue.
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest\*Your steam ID*\
The client saves are in:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest\*Your steam ID*\MultiPlayer\cs\
Their named are guids of servers you have connected to.
steam cloud version (doesn't include client saves)
*steam location*\Steam\userdata\*your steam ID3*\242760\remote\
