I need help with my PS4 controller

Hi, I used to use my controller to play the forest all the time, but I haven't since about Febuary until tonight.
It used to be a simple case of plugging it in and it would work, but now it doesn't.
I have tried running as admin, and also using big picture mode to confirm that controller is detected. Even in the forest options menu it says that it is detected on the controls tab.
it works on the main menu and sometimes the pause menu, but in-game, not even one button works any more.
Can somebody guide me here? It used to be such a simple thing to do but now it just does not work.

Have you ticked the ‘controller’ box in the settings menu? I can’t remember what it’s called but there is a little box that you should tick. Give it a go.

Did you use big picture mode?
